I have ADHD (Both Spheres) and Bipolar Depression I. I have been taking medication, but it only helped my mania. I want to feel better, but my job is so boring and dead end, and I am still feeling apathetic to moving on because I still have mixed episodes and real bad lows every month or so that goes up and down daily for weeks at a time. Am I asking to much from treatment and would going on disability solve anything? I would think after 3 years and being on almost every medication on the list that I would feel better.

What I really want to do is give up medicine completely and try that for a while, but I know that the doctor would never allow that.

I would agree with you about meds. Meanwhile,try this book;
it may clear things up for you: "Addicted To Unhappiness"
by Martha+William J. Pieper. The subtitle is: 'Free yourself from
moods and behaviors that undermine relationships,work,and the
life you want.' On first reading title,it may sound ridiculous to your conscious mind; but it is the UNCONSCIOUS that does
the dirty on us!
Respectfully,
BLUEDOVE

How much of this is your environment and lack of fulfillment v your expectations regarding what medications are able to do v thier limitations. They can't change bad job or relationship situations. Disability will likely take about 2-3 years to get and you'll get a few hundred dollars per month and be qualified for public housing assistance, food assistance, etc. I'm thinking that you can accomplish quite a bit in 2-3 years!
