Something Very Nice Happened to Me Today

Today has been a monster of a day. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. with a migrain headache and even with medications I could not get rid of it.

It finally went down to a dull ache and later in the day, a woman not only insulted me, but was rude to my friend because of her race. My friend told me I became so angry I turned ashy green. The migrain came back full force, and no, I didn't say anything to the woman. She wasn't worth it.

I had to stop by the grocery store on the way home. In the store I started having the kind of migrain where you see auras and bright, sparkling lights. I couldn't see out of my right eye because of it, while pain shot through my left eye and the left side of my face and forehead.

I prayed my way through it so I wouldn't panic. I also knew I couldn't drive without being able to see so I might have to sit in my car for a long time until the lights stopped.

When I came up to the check out line and elderly man was carrying a basket. His back was bent and I could tell he had fallen on hard times. Since he had fewer things than I did, I asked him to go ahead of me.

He said, "Oh no, Baby Girl, you go first. I can wait."

I asked him again and received the same response. The only person that ever called me "Baby" was Momma Co. I've been missing her so much and I always reminded her that I was her "baby girl".

I thanked the man for his kindness and he thank me for mine. I owe him a great debt. He'll never know how much that one act of generosity and kindness helped a weary soul today.

The pain didn't magically disappear when he called me "Baby Girl", but the auras and lights went away and I was able to drive safely home.

Miracles sometimes come in the strangest packages.

I am so glad your two paths crossed on a day that it was definitely needed. There are kind people out there it just seems that they sometimes get lost in the crowd. I am glad he could remind you of happy memories.

I am so glad that this happened to you and no less on a day that you really needed it. It becomes quite hard to believe in human kindness with the way that society has become. Often we feel that we are the last of a dying breed. but it seems that just when you are about to give up hope someone comes out of the wood work that has a sense of decency. It is an amazing feeling to be the target of kindness instead of the giver thereof. Have a GRRRRREAT day hon.
