Awwww poor ((((((((((((bebop))))))))))))))))

You ain't gettin older hon...you be getting BETTER! aarp

I got my first stuff last year, and I joined for a year. If you like getting junk mail every day from what they try to sell you, ie: life insurance, car insurance, travel insurance, yadda yadda yadda...then go for it.

After a year, I asked to be taken off their mailing list. It was out of control!

But here's another thought, with the price of mailing junk mail going waaaaaaaaaay up today...they may cut back a bit LOL.

Good Luck!

Getting old has a few perks....if you look really hard for them. ha! I like aarp. We use the discount when we stay at hotels and it helps. I also enjoy some of the magazine articles.

My husband won't join as he doesn't like their politics and methods and they seem a bit obnoxious/aggressive to me too.

In my mom's case(s) it is worth it, she is in and out of the hospitals, several kinds of docs, and use/rentals of various things from med supply places.

We laughed when we starting getting that AARP stuff in the mail, we are getting "old", they time it around your 50th birthday, when they start with the mailers.
WE presently have full coverage type ins. through hubby's job, he won't be retiring for another 15yrs.
But Medicare combined with AARP has helped my mom, plus she lives in NJ, on fixed income (S.S.) for those in that situation, the state combined with the US Gov. have a drug plan, she only pays a co-pay of 5 dollars per refill, naturally they are always generics unless they're only non generic still.
I think AARP has been good for her and they are always pleasant to talk with when one needs info. aarp

It's basically a good thing even though there are will always be some things to disagree with.

It's a shocker getting old....the most painful thing for me was when the young fellas at McDonald's starting giving me the senior discount before I was even a senior. (they only missed by a few months. ha!) By the way, McDonald's has the cheapest senior soda around.

BOO HIZZZ on AARP! I never found any discounts worth using, certainly no discounts for eating out like my Ex had said, they messed up the brief they filed for Grandparent's Rights and are polluting the earth will all their propaganda (big, think envelopes of useless stuff). I sure didn't find it worth the money! aarp

Christian alternative to AARP
Washington, DC — Offering a "Christian alternative" to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Christian Association of PrimeTimers (CAP) hopes to counter the alleged liberal political agenda of its well-established rival group.

CAP, like AARP, offers homeowner's insurance, health insurance, a pharmacy service, travel services, and a number of other benefits. However, their main intent appears to be political. "CAP is mobilizing America's Christian PrimeTimers to ensure moral leadership in government and moral policies for our nation," according to the group's literature.

Dr. Billy A. Melvin, the group's chairman, said CAP will "show America's political leaders that there are millions of Christian Americans who do not share AARP's liberal political agenda for America. We are a Christian organization working to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and return our great nation to righteousness."

Founded three years ago, CAP, with 55,000 members, faces a David and Goliath situation against AARP's 32 million members. Until recently, membership has grown strictly by word of mouth. Now, using direct mail, CAP hopes to garner one million members by the end of 1997.

Sorry, Sky, but... this organization wouldn't have been one of Fallwell's brain children, would it? Personally, I'm glad he's been "silenced."

I didn't wish him dead, either. That's in God's hands. Just the same, I'm glad his time here on earth is over. aarp He was way too far to the right for me! aarp But enough about him! Didn't mean to hijack your thread. aarp

No,not by Falwell... and it's changed names since I last checked aarp It's now Significant Living... http://www.significantliving.org/benefits/

It is just that most ppl think the aarp is the only org that can give seniors discounts and advice.

Sorry ((((bebop)))) that you are getting so old. aarp Let me know how it goes, ok?
