For me there was no secret. I've learned to appreciate my life, both the good and the bad. I also learned to tell the difference between things I can control and things I can not AND accept that. I also learned that if there is something in my life I want to be different I need to either make the effort to make the change or learn to accept things as they are.

I have not found the secret of contentment. Just about when I think I figure it out something throws me for a loop and I no longer know which way is up.

for me contentment isnt something that is found and then with me forever. life happens. no one is happy with their environment and life 100% of the time. if they were Earth would be Utopia.

my culture and my belief system is that you cant know happiness/contentment and other positive emotions/events.... if you dont have sadness\boredom and other negative emotions\events. wheres the challenge if everything is hunky dory, wheres the motivation to work, have families, enjoy life, better ourselves, challenge ourselves if everything was hunky dory\contentment all the time...

as human beings the only way we have evolved to where we are today was because we needed fire because we were not content to be cold/hungry/wet millions of years ago. the same goes for today...we wouldnt have electricity, the internet and other forms of technology if there was a secret to contentment to be found....

therefore i dont seek out the secret to contentment, life is going to go on whether Im happy /content or not. I instead take each day as it comes and deal with everything as its presented to me in what ever ways it comes to me, whether its a positive or a negative in my life.

I may wake up happy\content and then one of my children may be sick which affects my moods and how I feel that day. or I may wake up feeling absolutely horrid and my children will do something that makes me smile \happy and content. thats life. theres no predicting when Im going to be content\happy and when Im going to be unhappy\dis contented with my life and those around me. All i can do is take it one day at a time and roll with it. enjoy the times when things are right and Im feeling content and take care of myself and if needed find solutions when things are wrong \down\negative in my life.

I don't know what the secret is, but I know there is one secret - living in an environment where I feel safe, secure, and can be myself.
