people who are always positive.

you say something to them and then they always think of somethihng to say that's positive.

even if what you're going through is the worst thing in the world

yep... they annoy me!.

Not optimists themselves, nor even optimism... but those who are "Polly Annas" or always see things through "rose colored glasses" yeah, they rub.

Real friends are positive, not letting you wallow, but they at least acknowledge what the trial is and don't minimize it.

It's not the optimism, it's the platitudes. *puke*

I'm an optimist, but that doesn't mean that I lack sympathy and/or empathy.
Thanks for this!

The options are a bit black and white. I can love optimism and be optimistic AND be a good listener at the same time. One doesn't have to exclude the other.
Thanks for this!

I hear ya. But those have some basis in truth.

What I really can't stand is when perky religious people say that I can find happiness through their faith when it heavily conflicts and even infringes on my morals and beliefs.

Optimists are all good and well but the ones on the extreme end of the spectrum who wear rose tinted glasses and think that everything is all well and good tend to annoy me.

Optimism is good unless it skews ones reality.
And, that is annoying, to me anyway.

I'm not a total optimist. But it helps me to look at the bright side of things when I'm angry or sad.

It depends on the situation and the severity of what's going on.

I didn't vote... but that's a good thing, because I misread the title as, "Do optometrists annoy you?" !!!

And the funniest part, my first response was, "yes!!! You too? I can't believe someone else feels this way!"

All those "which is better, A or B?" questions (I'm indecisive and precise, it's really hard for me to pick one on the first try or sometimes third try!), putting stuff in the eyes, and generally causing me stress and anxiety that I don't need. Down with optometrists!

(My last one was actually quite nice, but I still hate "being tested" and having to pick A/B multiple times!)

Optimists? Meh, it sort of depends on the individual I guess. Anyone who's not listening and trying to say, "don't feel that way! be happy!" is painful to talk to, but sometimes being able to see the positive side of something is useful.

The worms await us all -where are the grounds for optimism in the face of that incontrovertible fact?
