I posted this on a thread I found that was older. I thought maybe someone here might read and could help?
"I'm new here and I understand this is an old thread, but I have a question if anyone is around to answer it- My son is saying that he has lyrics stuck in his head to the point that he is having trouble falling asleep. Also, even if it goes away for a bit, he says that it the middle of having a conversation, it will come back and distract him (like he feels interrupted and loses his train of thought). He's a great kid, currently not taking any meds, previously diagnosed with anxiety. He's 17 and my dad had schitzo-affective disorder, so I'm always worried that he could manifest with those symptoms. Otherwise, doing pretty well right now. Don't know if I should worry. Thanks in advance!" |

Is your son playing any forms of electronic games. These tunes can be so insidious. If he is then ask him to turn the sound off. Otherwise some music gets into a loop in our heads called an ear worm. It seems like they will never stop, but they do, eventually. Helping him to relax will also refocus his thoughts. Hoping that your son remains well.

Anxiety or panic disorder? I co morbid with a few other diagnoses, but one of my diagnoses is dissociative identity disorder. Sometimes, my parts sing after the music has stop, I'm guessing because they were away in their room and didn't hear, accessed my memory and decided to sing later on. I have to tell the name and aged person to shut up and hope they listen..
This is a fact, but since you said he has anxiety, I can only speak to that I don't know what schiz-affective disorder is. You also stated that something about losing a train of thought. If it becomes problematic have him checked out by a doctor first then mental health. I know we ALL get that man I got this song stuck in my head feeling. Does he have trauma history? I believe schizo-affective disorder is genetic only, so it has merit. |

Hi there. I am diagnosed with anxiety and Schizo affective.
Hearing them in the head doesnt sound like too much of a problem. I know a lot of people who deal with that too. I hear lyrics in my head sometimes too that can last all day but sometimes I will start to have musical auditory hallucinations as well where i will literally hear the music playing in my room etc(very loudly)
