I know this is silly but all this terrorist activity is scaring the hell out of me. my hubby works at our local airport and two of the people arrested were doctors in a hospital! they were from stoke and leicester which is really close to home. we have a lot of iraqi immigrants living in Derby and i fear for bombs going off in the city where my children always go.
it's making me anxious, houses all over britain are being surveyed, but you just dont know what's going to happen next. am i over reacting? i hate flying and am going to Spain in September and a festival in august, i already hate flying, this is very disturbing. my daughter is going to a holiday destination next week, i'm so anxious.

I understand what you mean. I would never have expected Glasgow to be targetted, but at least nobody was hurt. As for your children - I'm not sure how old they are but maybe you could limit the amount of time they are in the city, make sure they are able to contact you easily if something does happen, and get them to look out for suspicious things and behaviour, maybe. As for Spain - I too don't much like flying and risk of attacks has made it worse, so I know what you mean. But at least when you are going is not a peak period. As for your daughter - I hope nothing happens to her, I shouldn't think it would be very likely to affect her but probably everyone thinks that. Really all I can advise is to try to keep going on as normal, the terrorists do after all want everyone to feel afraid.

I am born and bred in London. Was caught up in 2 IRA bombs, thankfully not hurt myself. I'm more fearful or our own youth that carry knifes, they're the real threat. So fear not.

<font color="#000088">I understand your fear,it's only natural, especially when you have children to think about. I don't live in the U.K.,but in the U.S. when the planes were highjacked, and the Twin Towers(World Trade Center)were struck by 2 of those planes, and the Pentagon was hit by one of the others. We were all terrified, and one of the men that helped plan the attack on the World Trade, was arrested in my City, and State,San Diego,California. We were on high alert for along time, and it was scary for a lot of people.
Be safe over there, and I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Hi Jinny,

Sadly, the world is an unsafe place now. I am so sad that the young people and children will never know the peace we once enjoyed and probably took for granted.

I don't think any harm was meant, either, but it is my job to help members stay within the guidelines.

Hugs,

Jan

Jinnyann, I don't think you are over reacting. UK is on "high alert" terrorist attacks. That says a lot... It is not like "out of the blue" you are worried about terrorist attacks. It is a reality!

It seems the terrorists what to create fear. And that is pretty much what they are doing. My suggestion is to not let fear of terrorists attacks control you. Be cautious, be wise, but go about your daily life as "normal" as you can.

I say this, because a few years ago, in Virginia, there were two Beltway snipers, killing several people. It was scary, because you didn't know where they would strike next. I was at the local library and felt very uneasy just getting out of my car. Looking over my shoulder, trying to see anything or anyone that looked suspicious. I was afraid. It is normal to be afraid. I was happy they were finally caught. I will be happy when all this "terrorist" activity is stopped.

Oh, the Beltway snipers and terrorist attacks are far from being the same. I just used the beltway snipers as an example as to avoid any political discussion that would merit my post being deleted.

..Keeping you and your family in my prayers..
