To be a friend is to not be afraid to say " I'm your friend" in public.

To be a friend is to not deny your friendship when your friend is not around.

To have a real friend is one of the best thing you can have. Cherish this friendship.

Good statements.

To be a friend is also not to take one's 'friend' for granted and/or treat them like crap.

thank you and i love you my friend.

Direction you asked how you know when you have a friend? When they are beside you no matter what you have to say with uncoonditional support and love. When there are no conditions to have to be met to or no expectations but they meet you right where you are and hold you up anyway. We are here and holding you up. We are your friend.
