I’ve been working on a project for my mom. It’s a box with a lid and I am putting positive sayings into it—here is one “keep your face to the sunshine and you’ll not see the shadows.” Then I’m going to have several ones like “I love you…hang in there…you’re beautiful just the way you are…may your mind find peace today…”

I want to make the box full so when she is feeling down or having a rough day she can reach into the box and pull out a positive note--kinda like a big fortune cookie. My mom says it is very encouraging to hear that others understand her struggles and that they are thinking of her—makes her feel less alone. BTW, she does not have a computer so she can’t go online.

Hopefully it’ll encourage her to keep trying and she’ll know that others are thinking of her and sending her a message... If you have any sayings will you please send them to me? Just any type of note that is positive—long or short.

My mom struggles with depression, anxiety and fibromyalgia. She has severe chronic pain and has to take a lot of pain meds. Sometimes she’ll go several weeks or months without leaving her house because of her pain and anxiety. She is also starting to deal with the loss of her mother—she passed away in Oct of 2007. It breaks my heart to see my mom in so much pain. So, please send me a saying or post it here or whatever.

I hope everybody is doing well today.

Right now I have a water bottle with the phrase "you are beautiful, inside and out". I never would have written that to myself and when I read the water bottle I feel like hey wow, this is nice. I am an older Mom type so don't hear the 'beautiful' word used too much anymore...(hmmm, did I ever). Oh, well, hope that is helpful.

You're a good kid.

I'm in my 50s. I'm also homebound due to permanent and terminal disability status due to familial amyloidosis. I leave my home maybe 3 times per year - each time it's a very painful and difficult experience. My parents died within eight days of each other when I was 33. I understand your mother's pain and frustration. Here are some of mine that come to mind.

"When a storm questions your prayers, use the prayers to question the storm and bring you home."

"...When we long for life without...difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure." -- Peter Marshall

"Old age is not for the faint of heart."

Finally, I would suggest a personal note from you saying something like...."You are loved" or "Thank you for giving me life - couldn't have done it without you."
Thanks for this!

That's really nice of you to do this for your Mom. I was going to give you the website Rainbowzz recommended. Your Mom's a lucky woman to have a daughter like you

Your Mom is lucky to have you!! I have always loved your Avatar! Constant pain is such a stumbling block. Has you mother tried the fibromyalgia meds?

In the eye of the storm is quiet and calm
For pain and anxiety, it is such a balm.
To get there, we have a journey through chaos,
But, one step at a time, it won't long delay us.

Self-consciousness can be battered down by other-centeredness.

"All things come together for good."

"My growth is enhanced every time I give my attention fully to another person"

"Without life's pain, I would fail to recognize the value of contentment."

"It feels good to help another feel appreciated"

"We are moving toward greater understanding of life's mysteries with each experience"

I hope your box for your Mom overflows! billieJ
