Shortly after I arrived in Louisville to visit my daughter and the twin grandsons, age 5, one of them asked me seriously, "Gram, when are you going to get married?"
I was surprised by such a question from someone so young. They wanted to know why I'm not with Grandpa Bill. I responded to them, that, well, "Grandpa Bill is with GramPam, and I have my pets, and also I like to be alone."
I also observed them talking a lot more about feelings, which until this visit I hadn't observed. Until now they were just in the moment. I mentioned this to Mitch and LIndsay and they acknowledged that this is true, and that they had also become aware of the concept of death, a worry to the little fellas.
Isn't it fascinating how we develop as children?

once my granddaughter (who was 6) asked me to marry again....i asked her why and she said, "so i can have a more fun grandpa than papa" (my ex)

It is so fascinating how they process information. I am the only single person they know, since the other grandparents are longtime married, as well as my daughter and husband. Mitch and Lindsay spend a lot of time listening to them and answering their questions. Both of them are educators and aware of child development, and the little fellas are sweet and perceptive.
They also related to me, several times, that "Mom NEVER lets us have sweet treats, or ever lets us buy toys!" This is not true, and I sensed a little con game going on with Gram!

My husband and I had been estranged for 3 years. My beautiful kind sweet Lindsay decided it was high time to find someone for Mom (unbeknownst to me, of course).

I had taken a few minutes out of my busy afternoon to tend to my laundry. Upon pulling up my email, I received a confirmation from GreatPeopleMeet.com. Thanking me for my information, and needed to click on the link to register. I followed the link, and discovered what my sweet little girl had done. She gave me a wonderfully kind profile (exaggerated on the looks a bit). I found it heartwarming, deleted the membership and never scolded her for the deed.

Children are just soo......wonderful!!

My neice Marlee just turned six this spring. I can't believe how much she's changed since she came into my life at age 4. I think kindergarten teachers are the smartest people in the universe!

You have been an educator, as well as me, and I agree with you...I could never teach Kindergarten...all those little minds like sponges!

When I got my students they could all read, write and do a modicum of math. I stand in absolute amazement of what Marlee learned in one year at kindergarten!

I taught her the four states of matter the other day. She still forgets sometimes, but I love to hear her explain liquids, solids, gas and plasma!

The twins, just having turned 5 are to go to Kindergarten this fall. They have been in day school and already know much, including Spanish words! They have loved the learning experiences.
When my daughter was small, such things weren't available, just daycare and she would protest at being left therel!
