I've been aware of a mess of mental disorders I've struggled with since I was 11 but I've had so many 'red flags' and things I've never dealt with in the last two months that it's scaring me (which doesn't happen easily?)

1. attempted suicide - less than two months ago. followed by
2. binge eating problems from someone who was anorexic as long as I could remember
3. sleeping/serious insomnia. I sometimes stay up 30-40 hrs which I never did before. never had problems with sleeping this bad before, especially since I can stay up over two days and still feel fine (and I'm not on any meds or anything)
4. EXTREME moods, total bipolar symptoms but I've never felt like that before my last suicide attempt and I really don't think I am bipolar.

those are the most serious, along with being constantly suicidal which is also different than I'm used to. If anyone has experience with these or relates to strangely changing mental disorders, any advice or stories would be really appreciated.

When I started to feel very unwell, I went to my general doctor. That ultimately led to a refer all to my psychiatrist. A lot of your symptoms resonate with me and your are in my thoughts.

Under the circumstances, seeking medical attention is likely the best thing you can do. This is only my opinion, but I highly recommend seeing a psychiatrist if you are not seeing one already. Therapy can augment this, as well, and be part of your treatment team.

Regular insomnia and erratic food intake wreaks havoc on me. I'm no stranger to attempts and I have bipolar disorder. I'd get to a psychiatrist ASAP. You are in my thoughts, Hadley.

Thanks,
I've had several psychiatrists and therapists, seen my general doctor, been hospitalized and so on. I feel like I've tried every kind of treatment and coping method (healthy and many unhealthy) and it's a dead end. I'm considering letting myself be hospitalized again until I figure out whats going on or what to do next though. Thanks for the kind words.

it is great a person would sign themselves into a psych ward and is commendable. i used to be practically dragged by ambulance to the hospital, but have learned since then it is for the better.i would deny my illness and it would get worse and worse. we have to work to be stable and it is sometimes hard to do but it can be done.

I agree! I've gotten to the point where I've checked myself in and it was helpful. Keep us posted.

Yes, it's positive to not be afraid of the hospital. I recognized the need to do so the last time I recognized I was in the throws of having a breakdown. My family doctor is my first point of the process.

It is great you are also self aware - especially of the up swings too.

Write these things down. Document for a while just what these moods are and note the triggers if you can. This will be helpful when you see your mental health care team

Did they put you on new meds after the attempt? If so you probably should check in with your psychiatrist about the changes in your behavior and feelings since that time. It may be some med is causing problems.

Yeah, I've been on several and even had psychotic reaction to some of them. I've been off meds for a few months now and don't plan on trying them again.

Please stick with it until you get the relief you are looking for. It sounds like it will take a while on an outpatient basis, especially if you are not going to take meds.

Just an update: I was hospitalized voluntarily about a week ago. I was released yesterday and while I'm definitely in a more uncomfortable place for me, I think it's a good uncomfortable.
