How do you define "friend"

Someone who honest, caring, dependable, sincere. I think those are my top requirements.

I have to say this has happened to me more than a few times too...grrrrr

But I have also found some who deserve to be called friend

To me,a friend is someone that I feel close to,that is there for me through both good and bad times,someone I can be myself with,someone I can trust and count on.

And mostly,someone that I WANT in my life and WANT to be around.

*probably why I only have a couple of friends,there's not many people that fit those requirements*

A friend makes time for me, listens, cares, responds, 'gets' me, tries to put effort into the friendship

A friend is someone you find beside you in your joy and sorrow. In good and bad times. You don't have to search and reach out for them. They understand and be there for you.

A friend, in addition to many of the mentioned qualities is someone who asks how I am and truly wants to hear the answer whether it's good or not so good. For instance, are you ok? I mean really ok? Type of question. A friend is someone that cares to remember the little important details.

Somebody whose company I enjoy, someone I trust, someone I like, Someone supportive, someone I care about and who cares about me. I'm also learning that it is normal for friendship to ebb and flow, and if people aren't there 24/7, it doesn't mean they're not your friend. But if you get a bad feeling or a used feeling, or an "I don't care" feeling, then maybe have a talk or reevaluate the "friendship."

Someone who is willing to spend part of their time with me. Someone who thinks that being around me enriches the quality of their life. And there has to be reciprocity. Someone who thinks I have something valuable to bring to them and wants to make themself valuable to me.

A friend is a person that complements your personality. Therefor "friendship" may mean different things to various characters.

For me my friends are all different and I get different experiences from each one.

The one thing in common is I feel better after being with them - that's my definition of a friend.

A friend is something I never had the first 54 years of my life but have been blessed to be surrounded by many these last few years of my life after settling in my NEW WORLD 2100 miles away from where I was born, raised & lived those 54 years of my life.

I have come to realize that a REAL FRIEND is someone you emotionally connect with. Someone you have a lot in common with, especially core values. It's someone who feels safe sharing their thoughts, heart/emotions/feelings with you & who you feel safe being able to share yours. Someone you accept & accepts you & all the little quirks without it messing up the relationship. It's someone that even though there are differences of opinion & disagreements they can be worked through & respect & caring grows rather than diminishes. A friend is someone you really enjoy doing things with & being with & feel better afterward. A friend is someone who is there for you & you are there for them without even being asked. Who makes time for each other even when a busy schedule, who you support each others activities with interest when not what they/you are involved in the activity. They are exactly what we expect family to be like but are always disappointed in. Friendship is a 2 way street so we need to be who & what they need

I honestly didnt thik friends were necessary before I started to experience friendly people & started to connect with them. I remember after leaving my marriage & moving to the farm I bought & several years later when I finally put my bed together, I was surrounded by my dogs & this warm feeling came over me. Im sure that was the first time I experienced the feeling of love. I was at least 56 at the time.

I have difficulty taking acquaintanceships further into the realm of friendships. I have been hurt by so called friends in the past and thus have some trust issues - even with those I have gotten close to. As a result I tend to remain at arms length. I have numerous aquaintanceships some closer than others. This also allows me some freedom to pull back and withdraw from relationships as my mood, etc, requires.

I am a person to jump in and help acquaintances if need be. I will carry the weight of other's on my shoulders. I will be fiercely loyal. My lack of trust however leads me to question whether I can count on others to do the same.

There's no definition for 'friend' in my eyes. At least, not one that can be summed up in words to try and explain it.

In the simplest of terms: This person, I like this person. I pick this human as a partner in whatever this thing we call 'life' is.
