So I have been to the psychologist on my University's campus twice now and feel more confused now than I did before I started going to the psychologist. She mentioned concerns about generalized anxiety, social anxiety, possibly some borderline traits, and OCD. However, she has never said one way or another what is going on and I am feeling frustrated. Today she also mentioned something about autism she did not say I have autism but said she was trying to "tease out what might be OCD and what could possibly be autism". Is it normal to feel this way or should I be getting some kind of answer?

Can she give you a diagnosis? I think that's really important before you start any kind of therapy.. maybe you can ask her about that.

If I were you, I'd ask the psychologist what her diagnosis is - keeping in mind that after only 2 sessions, she might still be forming a diagnosis.

I think it's probably a good thing she hasn't given any formal diagnosis as yet. It means she is taking her time to get it right. By all means ask what she feels is most likely but try not to be too disheartened that she hasn't given you a label yet.
Thanks for this!

I just left my primary care physicians office and he said that the psychologist likes to take her time and really tease things about before coming up with something so I guess that's a good thing. My doctor upped my escitalopram from 10mg to 20mg not sure why he did that. I've been doing better since starting the meds
Thanks for this!

Personally, I prefer to listen to the diagnosis a psychiatrist has to give.

That might be an option for me in the future but right now the psychologist on campus is free. Well at least for one more visit. I'm considering stopping my meds though I don't think I have OCD like they say I do

The psychologist is just writing down symptoms then he will look in the DSM 5 edition and will find something to match you up to a pill. The pill won't cure you if you don't want to harm you or anyone else you are a normal human. Please don't stop taking your medicine meet with your prescriber and tell them you would like to get off the medication.

If you're doing better on the meds why stop? Maybe you don't have OCD but if they are relieving symptoms you should stick with them.

I suggest meeting with the prescribing doctor and saying you want to stop the meds.

But then maybe I'm biased as meds helped me (somewhat) for a while but then harmed me

Personally I'm not a fan of medicating people long term unless this is really necessary (they can have serious long term side effects )

I think it's positive that the psychologist is being careful with diagnosis ..

Yes, please, don't go off of your meds without consulting the prescribing doctor. I've been through this with my daughter.

Very true I'm sure it's a good thing she is taking her time I just get anxious being in the dark about it. Do you think she would transfer notes and stuff to a new therapist? I'm new to the mental health thing and I'm not sure how it works if you change providers. The reason I ask is because she is affiliated with my university which I'm considering dropping out of.

Yoyr NEW therapist will have a form for you to fill out & sign requesting yoyr records to be sent to them. NOTHING happens automatically or without your written permission.

Hope you get things sorted out. If you are on the autistic spectrum it can make life challenging.

Meds are good if they are helping. Bad if you get horrible side effects like I do but going off unsupervised can cause withdrawal symptoms is a med that causes that. The body gets used to (dependent not addicted) to the chemical in the body & can cause uncomfortable effects comibg off of it DEPENDING ON THE MED. (Some have no effect at all)
