If you go to www.mtork.com you can help look for Steve Fossett and his plane by reviewing satellite images provided by google earth. It's "easy" and with many more thousands of eyes looking, we will find him! (I used to do this live in an airplane for the Air Force SAR unit.) They give basic instructions, but if the image they provide on that site isn't clear enough for you, you can use google earth directly. TC!

Sky do you think this was planned? His “disappearance” that is, I mean come-on, they new his exact flight plan, the vectors for possible emergency escape routes, the amount of fuel carried so they know how far he could possibly travel in any direction, not to mention on ground GPS tracking of the plane by his ground crew, he disappeared for a reason, why no signal from the black box attached to EVERY plane? If they do not find him, it is because either he does not want to be found, or something bad about him is going to be released publicly, think Robert Maxwell type of cynicism, I am.
edited by me to add... it could be also a ruse for him to write a book on his "survival adventure" |

While I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the data regarding this search. I don't know his mental status, though from what I hear he was excited about the new ground speed test, and another event in Australia? And, yes, it is questionable as to why the EPerp (or is that the one on a boat?) didn't squawk. That means 1)it was turned off ahead of time 2) it was turned off during flight or 3) it was damaged and didn't work. I don't have access to the maintenance records on the Bellanca, though I'm guessing they were up to date.
Yes, the amount of fuel that aircraft could handle is computable, but not knowing how fast or slowly he was flying or at what altitude for how long we don't know. If he was viewing sand sites, it could have been slow and low. No, I don't believe Steve Fossett would be one to pull such a stunt. Is there possibility of foul play? Yes, imo. Though I would suppose someone saw him get into the plane alone. Could he have landed and met someone that what, kidnapped him? Who knows? Anything is possible. Has he crashed before? Yes. Did he write about those events? IDK personally, but guess one could find out through google. ![]() If he wanted to escape, he had the money and the wherewithal to just quit and live on an island. IDK why he would turn off the squawk box if he was just going to plow into the mountains or ground.

I am looking at it from a logical, methodical view, if I am wrong I apologise in advance, at this point I still don’t think I am wrong, something just don’t smell right, everything was meticulously planned by this man, with multiple communication devices available not only on the plane and with a possible mobile phone, no communication was ever received by him, ok radio fails, ground tracking gps still works with last know location heading and height, , gps fails, loss of signal but still have last known location, factor in remaining fuel, height, speed from last known bearing for recovery sites, black box still works location pinpointed, (eperp is a marine device), black box doesn’t work? what’s the calculated odds that all these failures did happen in that order or any other order for that sake, I am not saying it is not possible, anything is possible (allegedly) but if all that equipment failed on the aircraft, are you gonna tell me a multi-millionaire is going to get on a plane without his mobile phone? Even if killed on impact call his phone and triangulate, damn even our motor breakdown services in the UK can pinpoint you if you breakdown using your mobile phone, your telling me your government don’t have that facility?

I agree with you mellors, that all those failings are beyond computational odds. I think I heard that he left his cell phone at home, for one thing. Yeah, not too swift, but haven't we all done that when just going on a quick ride to the store or something?
![]() An ELT in an aircraft often can be turned off by the pilot. More often than not it's left on (ready) or accidently bumped and caused to go "on" and squawk when there isn't a crash. Did you hear something to the effect where he "dropped off" satellite viewing or NTAP? I didn't. From what I heard, he was never found on one, meaning his aircraft never squawked. So all they have is the airstrip from where he took off, and the day and approximate time??? I think they have a general direction, since most of the satellite images I have been reviewing are that way. Yes, they do check the airport to see when the plane was last fueled, and if it had been flown since, before this flight. They know all about that aircraft, when it's last maintenance was pulled etc. I haven't personally googled it, but now that you make me think of it, yeah that would be interesting to know it's range and speed capabilities. Yes, anything is possible really. I mean, maybe he landed the thing on a farm because he felt ill, they parked his craft in one of their barns and took him in, and they are so remote they don't have tv etc. ![]()
