Hi,
Is there a thread that has to due with problems with Alchol or drug abuse? In addition to anxiety, ocd, and depression I am also struggling with alcoholism and xanax addiction. I have not had a drink in almost a year and a half, and I have not had any xanax or any other benzos since March. Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with a dual diagnosis??

Welcome Nellie. I think other than the depression and anxiety forums, you can try the Health Support. There are many ppl who are dealing with more than one issue.
DocJohn adds new forums as the need arises on an ongoing basis. You can always PM him. meditation is a true way to connect to the Source

Hi Nellie,
Welcome to the forums! The Health Support forum might be good place to start a thread about this. I'm a recovering alcoholic of over 15 years, and I have chronic pain in my back, knee, and was recently dx'd with Fibromyagia. So, I take some pretty heavy duty pain meds. While I'm under a doctor's supervision, I know that I'm addicted to these meds. I try to be pretty open and honest about that. I'd be glad to have a conversation, or answer any question you may have about it, OK? I'm really glad you found us, and I truly hope you find the help and support that you're looking for! Nervous...
I think you will find lots of support here for drug or alcohol addictions. These problems seem to be very closely connected with mental illnesses. People may suffer from depression for a long time without proper diagnosis or treatment, because we hate to talk about it in this society. As a result we attempt to "self medicate" without really understanding the problem. All we know is that this makes us feel better for awhile. I also have several friends who were pushed into a state of depression as a result of continued drug abuse. I do think it is important and appropriate to talk about and to treat both problems at the same time. Anything you wish to share I'm sure will be welcomed here. I think you are well on the right track as it does seem you are dealing with both issues. Congratulations on your success in recognizing the bad effects that alcohol and drugs have on your mental (and physical) well being and for being able to work on changing these behaviours successfully. ------------------------------------ --http://www.idexter.com
