I don't know why but I heard my boyfriend talking to his mom about paying her to clean our room. I can't stand people going through my stuff, so I'm getting up early tomorrow to clean it.
Thanks for this!

Also, people don't clean the way I want around here and only clean half *****
Idk if it's my OCD
But I rather clean everything nice once than let other people clean barely and I have to go over them
Thanks for this!

I understand how you feel. Everything has a place. I don't like people going through my stuff uninvited... even my fridge! Yes you Nephew! He does it every time he comes over. My wife and I are private people and we like our stuff left alone I'm sure you do too. Good luck tomorrow with the cleaning.

Oh, I so know what you mean! I don't like people touching my things for fear of "contaminating" them, or changing how I have them organized, or risk of damaging them (even if it's as simple as bending a page in a book).

I do not mind someone doing some cleaning either to or around my stuff as long as I know everything will remain exactly where it was beforehand.

I'm a private person. His family and him are more open with each other.
I had to get used to some things like family members coming over randomly and such. I'm more open than I was, but I like at least our room to be private.

I am split down the middle regarding this. With the exception of a nick nack shelf, I figure everything in the public spaces of my kitchen and living room are fair game. But touch what's in my bathroom (whether it's in view or not) or that shelf in the living room and I will get very upset. My nick nacks are meaningful and many of them have spiritual significance. It bothers me when people handle this stuff. I do worry the belongings will be contaminated.

I had to check to make sure I wasn't the one who had posted this! Ha.
I have a HUGE problem with people going through my stuff.
Personally, I think this stems from when my apartment was burglarized and everything was stolen; I had to start over, and it was exhausting (mentally and physically).
Also, I tend to let people into my life too easily and trust too quickly, which had led to "friends" saying they want to "help me clean the apartment," and they end up going shopping in my stuff! I don't have many nice things, but I do splurge occasionally on beauty products, and there's nothing I hate more than someone going into my bathroom and squealing "Oooh! I want to try this!" I have such a co-dependency problem that I have a tough time saying no, and so I let them, and then I end up resenting them.
I would never dream of going into anyone's home and going through their stuff. I think it is incredibly rude for someone else to assume that the way they live is better than the way I live. If I didn't ask for help, don't offer it. I will get a maid if I want help.

It happened again. I had someone over. When I turned my back they started rifling through the objects on my shelf. When I returned I found him with some of my eagle feathers in his hand. I was really upset. Considering the context of the other objects it should have been clear this entire shelf was of spiritual significance.
Thanks for this!

Sorry to hear that, I agree with you, eagle feathers have a very spiritual significance and for him not to have a clue is unconscionable. Sorry for your trauma.

I'm sorry about your eagle feathers. I don't know why people have to touch other people's things without asking. Don't we teach kids, "Don't touch that!"? Why does that change when we grow up (for some people, anyway)?

I don't mind so long as no one is consuming them, whether it be a cologne or my laptop for instance, which is by the way why I always fold it when leaving home.

I too have issues with others messing with personal "special" items that are cherished.
Especially, not limited to plants, animals, or significant mementos. Some are look, don't touch.

Can I relate? More than "yes" ... I get the uncanny feeling you have all been spending time in my head.

I definitely do. I've had cherished things taken from me as a child, so now I'm more possessive.
