I am going to the doctors tommrow and i still have fresh scars from my SI.....they cover my stomach and im hoping i can keep my tank top on...since all i need him to look at is my upper chest.....but if he happens to see it what may happen? Can he admit me to a hospital because of the scars? Last time i went to the doctor he found out and i feel because of this that he considered me a hypochondric....so im alittle worried....but i need to know if i am safe enough to go.....i should go...i want to go...but i want the same service as everyone else and not to be taken advantage of ....

If it was my doctor and I had a tank top on - he would not see my stomach. In looking at a couple of other posts, it seemed to be everyone else's opinion that recent evidence of SI would not be enough to get a doctor to try and involuntarily hospitalize anyone. Maybe just tell the doctor that you feel more comfortable keeping you tank top on if it comes to it. Good luck - take care.

am not sure about the specific laws in your country but most countries you have to be in immediate danger of causing harm to yourself or others. all you have to do is say that you aren't going to do it, and have no plans of suicide

old scars mean you hurt yourself in the past, while that is a predictor of future self harm, it is not enough to be able to force you to go to hospital as it is not evidence that you are in imminent danger.

i can understand you being embarrassed, it it were me I'd try to wear something that I could expose my chest with while keeping my tummy covered, even if it was really high pants which look bad but you have to do what you need to. Even in the medical profession there is still a stigma against those who cut

i forgot to say that they can involuntarily admit you if you have hallucinations or delusions, and also if you have done serious self harm (ie jumping out of building and breaking lots of bones) or are actively suicidal

thank you...i was hoping i get away with the whole i dont want to remove my tanktop idea....

i tried to keep the other doctor from lifting my shirt but he kept insisting he wanted to feel my stomach cuz i had went in for stomach problems ( which turned out to be IBS) but when he lifted it and saw it he ended up calling me a hypochondriac and threw some laxitives at me and after he did that i ended up in the ER and they said IBS ...so im not going to him again...but you can imagine why i am scared...

thank you again so much

sounds like the other doctor got problems like his missing bedside manner, im sorry you are struggling with these and i hope your doctor you have choosen this time is more understanding, try like the other post says that you are not very confortable with taking your tanktop of, and about how anxious you are

i think keeping your clothes on is OK.

last time i went to dr for food poisoning he wanted to touch my tummy and i said no and he was fine ... just said okay i'll give you a med cert for work and these antibiotics.

but looking at something through a thin layer of material is probably not much different from just skin?

however your SI is worrying ... no good sweetie i need to know immediately...please help

I hope all goes well with the dr. If you have a cough I would think he will listen to your back. Not really look at your stomach. I agree the SI should maybe need some attention thou. But is your choice. TC hope all goes well.
