I am going to be gone for a few days. I am going home to see my parents and my biological father. Please think of me....it is going to be difficult to see my father--I have seen him once in 10 years.

Thanks guys...I am pretty nervous about the trip. It means going back to the trailer where I grew up--facing my past. Facing the alcoholism, the abuse, neglect...but, my therapist and I think I can handle it. So, here goes...

I have been up all night--I can't sleep--I am too nervous about driving home today. I really wish I would have been able to sleep--going into this well rested would have been much better.

Oh, I so wish you'd gotten some rest!!! It's going to be a difficult drive. I've been where you're at, for the same reasons. I hadn't seen my father for 14 years. It was difficult. Please just know your expectations, their capabilities...I guess know what you're looking for with their limited capabilities...if you can. Shoot, who am I to give advice there? I do know that I kept my expectations to nothing...I was doing it for me and if he got anything out of it, good for him. It went OK for me... I hope the same for you, hon. Please let us know. I can't go back "home" because there were many. I do plan to go back to Camp LeJeune to face some things... For all teh horrible that was there, it was also beautiful in ways...the hiding places the coming of age and awarenesses. It was such an important time in my life in many ways. I understand. KD

I just got home. The visit went well. I am emotionally drained, but I am in a good spot considering everything I have gone through...I am going to post about my visit in the substance abuse forum--I think that is where it fits in the most. All and all, I faced my past and not only did I survive, I feel...okay with it.
