The next maintenence person who barges into my apt is getting hurt

Yes you are right you do need to have respectful maintenance and they should give 24 hr notice.

Ya, I was given a 24 hour heads up, however, I was NOT given a timeframe at all. The reason for the maintenance was pest control which is fine and all but the stuff these people use never does anything. I handle pest control on my own and the difference between my way of doing it and theirs is negligible at best. Because of this, I see no real need to deal with these people especially since the last guy was rude and clearly didn't care about my feelings or what I wanted at all.

There is this handyman guy that works here who isn't with the maintenance people but actually does pest control right. I had a talk with him today and he is going to bring me some professional grade sprays and help me out later. He even admitted that he thinks that these maintenance people should not be handling the pest control because they are notorious for spraying stuff that stinks up people's apartments and coming and going as they please and I'm not the only one who lives here that is tired of this.

If only I could get 24 hours notice to keep people from barging into my OFFICE.. when the door is closed... ::: sigh:::

But I agree that the remedy may be for practical matters to put a chain lock on but Darkness is right... it is basic to give you a reasonable knock.

I live in a condo and at a recent meeting the board wanted our keys to come in. We said no. The arrogant trustee was all.. kind of making fun of us until one of the residents piped up that if they came in the door wrong we could lose our pets (because it goes right out into the street) so they aren't getting the keys.

I would shot them if they just walked into my place without notice. I think you have every right to be upset and you should report this.

I just had the property manager slide a notice of entry into my door slot at 2pm today, and the notice is that they will be entering for inspections anytime between Tuesday - Friday from 9-5pm. It wasn't 24 hour notice, and when I brought that up, they said Florida statute is only 12 hours, and I said, well I'm pretty sure our lease is 24 hours. I also said, I want to be there...but really my biggest concern was that they would scare Fish or he might get out. So, and this was hard because I way overexplain and over-think, I finally said, I just want to know, if I put my dog in the bedroom, will you need to get in there or will he be out of your way? And she was like, oh yes, that's fine. And I said that I'd put a reminder note on both the doors to the bedroom.

I just don't want them to let my dog out or upset him or for him to get protective of his home and cause a problem. But I realized that sometimes when I'm having like a panic attack that my ability to communicate just dies. So the poor woman was trying to help me, and I was finally able to get to my point, which was, I just want to make sure my dog stays safe. So we figured it out, and I'm fine with them coming in tomorrow. I have to do some chores tomorrow morning to clean up a bit, but that's okay. Always good to have motivation to straighten up.

If I do happen to be home between those hours, I will just put a note on my door that says, "Person with disability resting inside. Please text or call cell phone to let me know you need entry."

God, that notice just could not have come at a worse time as I was worked up by this outright insult from my boss, which I decided I was not letting slip by, so I was worked up, then saw that I had to worry about people coming into my apartment the rest of the week.

I wish they would just use email. Or do the door thing but also email me. Because if I don't find out until I get home, and I need to put stuff away or straighten up, hide by drugs, whatever, (which I do have to hide my meds because they are scheduled drugs), if I need to pick up cleaning supplies so I can stop, or if I need to re-arrange my evening so I can prepare for it. Why can't they just send a notice by email too? They send us rent reminders every month, so what's the problem?

The email would take like 5 seconds to send out.

If it were me I would leave them a big stinky 1 star review on Yelp and Google Maps.

Actually, I'm not upset. Since they called back and told me what it was all about, and the manager was understanding that I didn't want them to upset my dog or for him to go into guard dog mode, and we agreed that he could be left in the bedroom/bathroom so they could come in and inspect.

I guess they were just going to skip units, like start to open the door and if there was an aggressive dog to skip it, but I'm like, just because a dog is protecting his home from a stranger does not make him aggressive. And what happens if the dog bites you while you are entering when you haven't told people when you are entering so they can crate their dogs?

Anyways, they bother me very few times during the year, and they've always been nice about working around my schedule.
