so i've recently started doing volunteer work at a drop-in centre and today was the first full day i've managed. i was on reception which means answering phones as well as walk-in visitors. just answering a phone sends my anxiety levels through the roof and i've always been shy with strangers but i done it. also although i was a nervous wreck until lunch time, it genuinely didn't show. it tired me out big time but it feels nice to have accomplished something.

for all

Good job! It's always wonderful to overcome the discomfort and anxiety and get the job done.

Hi carrie ann

Little????!!!!!
From what you've said that was a MASSIVE achievement!!!!
And you should feel SO proud of yourself!!!!!
Maybe you could see if you could be on the phone a little less at times and be doing other things instead??
But when you are on the phone.........sometimes over time things like that can get a bit easier as you're pushing those boundaries a bit........then a bit more...........
But on another time if things are "challenging" just remember today, the sense of achievement, and not only managing the phones but everything else too.........and remind yourself that you can do it!!!!
And, awesome achievement carrie!!! Go you!!!!

Alison

Thanks everyone ... it was my 2nd day today and it does get easier but i also took to heart what Alison said, a little less time on the phones (being an 8 hr shift) ... i swapped out for some photocopying etc. Again thanks to all for encouragement and for all.
