than people who have MI

why???

i try to talk about things that concern me to my "friends" on the internet, on mental health sites but htey dont get it, they dont understand and instead of helpung me with it and making me feel better they juts make me feel worse by blaming me when i go to the hospital saying ts my own fault for not taking my meds or telling me that i am going to be in the hospital my whole life or that i am crazy

i hate talking abotu mental illenss to people who have mental illness because even though they are SUPPOSED to understand they really dont

when i talk about my sschizophrenia to people who dont have any MI they understand more and are willing to read about it so that they can empathize with how i feel and they encourage me and dont tear me down

does anyone else find this true?

Ive never met a MI-free person who understood me. And I dont have much experience with other side, apart from this forum, which is more about uncertainty, since its just text on the screen. But I guess I feel understood by one person I PM with...

I understand what you mean, I joined a forum a few weeks ago where the people were so wrapped up in their own problems, there were no discussions going on. People were just all making their own threads by the minute. The only discussions they would enter was where people were saying they were suicidal at that precise moment. My conclusion was that they may have spent that long trying to get help that they had lost the concept of conversation. I had to leave the forum, it was a lonely toxic environment. This forum seems a lot better.

As for people with no MI I dont find them very helpful at listening, Im tired of hearing

We all feel like that
You just have to get organized
I dont want to get up some mornings
Thats how it was back then

I had to cut a convo dead just the other day by saying well we aren't talking about you for once, we are talking about me and unfortunately I don't have your coping mechanisms or motivation skills. Its not often that I snap with loved ones but every so often I have to.

I don't even discuss it with MI-free people because, in my experience, they say or act like they understand but don't really. In contrast, I've made close connections with other mentally ill people and find they understand. I guess my experience is the opposite of yours. Interesting. Best wishes.

i just find that people with MI are more likely to blame me for hospitalizations and they also don't understand voices or "delusions" and they tell me that i will spend my life in a hospital or they call me stupid and crazy

people without MI seem way more understanding and they encourage me and they do their best to make me feel better when i feel bad instead of tearing me down like people with MI

No, I don't find it true. I find that those with depression understand my experience. That makes them more compassionate to me.

But I never discount the sympathy of others. They are simply trying....and I appreciate that, very much.

It's good you found a group of understanding, empathetic people to provide support.
