This bothers me. The insurance company has a behavioral health number to call. They don't have a mental health number to call anymore. Is this more politically correct. I have bad behavior now not a mental illness. What do you think?
Thanks for this!

Funny, I was thinking about this yesterday. The mental health facility in my area is called Behavioral Health in the title which is misleading. I agree with you.

Yeah, we have Behavioral Health here, too.

I agree it's insulting. My mood swings are not bad behavior, just another excuse to criminalize mental health

I am a member of my local mental health board and we were discussing this very topic recently. No one on my board likes the term 'behavioral health.' It's an ignorant term and needs to go away.

Yeah, I think most organizations and hospital units related to Mental Health have gone to Behavior Health. I wonder if this move was taken more to reduce the stigma of the term Mental Health than anything?

Let's face it, you see it all the time in the media. Someone breaks a law and if the media gets info that the alleged offender has Bipolar or Schizophrenia it becomes part of the story and next thing you know, ignorant comments about people with Bipolar or Schizophrenia are plastered on facebook or the media site.

I don't care for the term either.

Thanks for your support I don't feel like such a bad boy and odd for this bugging me. The people here are better behaved then most people I meet in public.

I find this extremely ignorant and disrespectful. It is entirely misleading. I don't have a behavioural problem I have a mental illness.

I wonder if this stems from the practise now of including addictions and related 'behaviours' in mental health facilities. Is this an attempt to be all inclusive. A sad commentary if it is.

Perhaps insurance had something to do with it. Something rotten may be in the works..

Not fond of 'behavioral health' either. But clinics are now lumping in substance abuse with mental health to make more money. I see it with my clinic.

Yes. They refer to it as 'Behavioral Health'. I hope that you do have a number with receptive staff on the other end. Our United HealthCare/Optum Behavioral Health also has a 'Behavioral Health' number however, they will now ONLY speak to members who are in imminent danger of killing themselves (this is Fact). In the past, when one called them 24/7/365 they would be available to talk to someone in distress yet not in imminent danger. They continue to advertise, on their website, that they are available 'For Any of Life's Challenges' which I've suggested that they change. It all falls upon deaf ears.
