Here's hoping yours is going better than mine. I woke up this morning to no power so had to get ready for church in the dark eck! I came out here to my parents cuz I was going nuts at home with nothing to do. Happy 4th of July to all.

Joy, 3 days of being loanly

I usually spend holidays alone... in the past because I enjoy the quiet time alone. I spend some events gathering with friends and others home alone to provide a balance.

I have been home on the fourth of July for the past several years although traditionally it has been one of my "out" holidays (theme parks are notoriously empty on the 4th of July making it an excellent day to go there with friends and avoid the long lines for rollercoasters, and then enjoy the park's fireworks at the end of the day).

This year since I have not been only alone but also lonely, and isolating, I decided last minute to go out for some fireworks. I found a local town with a great fireworks display and got there shortly before the fireworks began. It backfired because it made me feel SO LONELY sitting there alone amongs the huge crowds of people talking and laughing. I realized that the fireworks themselves are not entertaining, it is watching them with friends that makes it an "event".

I came home very depressed .

The fireworks themselves were very nice though, but I miss watching them to music. When I was in Pittsburgh we used to go to the fireworks display at Point State Park where the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra used to perform live, a nice show ending with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture complete with real cannons, leading right into a very impressive fireworks display. In later years after the symphony performed, the fireworks were accompanied by music from a local radio station.
