I understand what you are going through.....when I had my career as an aerospace engineer, we had deadlines that were case in concrete. They had to be met & we had to put in all the hours that were necessary. Sometimes I would end up working 72 hours straight without any sleep or just a cat nap at my desk. As soon as the dead line was met, they would let me go home. I would sleep for days to make up for it. It would take those days of sleep just to recover.
Luckily there weren't all that many deadlines....2-4 a year. I was definitely younger then & my body could take it. Now I find myself getting into projects or like right now, trying to get moved into my Kentucky house. I find myself doing something & all of a sudden, the sun is up & I can't figure out where the night went. Luckily because it isn't work, I can sleep when my body says to sleep & I can stay awake when I have the energy to work. I can now mostly let my body's energy control when I do things & that way I get more accomplished. When working for someone else, they determine your hours rather that you being in control. If we find that our body can't tolerate it anymore & we absolutely can't continue to work that way, then it becomes necessary to make a change in where we are working or let the boss know that we have to set up boundaries because of health reasons. We have to take care of ourselves because no one else cares....work only cares about profit without regard to physical cost to the employees & will push beyond the capabilities of the employees....that is where we have to look after ourselves & know our limitations & if necessary, set those boundaries.....if they can't accept that, then comes the time to find another job that doesn't destroy us. Take care of yourself above all else & set your limits, Debbie
