After having a pet squirrel for just a little over six weeks I am seeing that there is a need for some squirrel gear (clothing for protection from their razor like nails)) - and now I am wondering how I would go about getting a sample made since I do not sew - not to mention a patent for my ideal(s)?

I would call the collection "Max Gear" - - after my Pet Squirrel.

i would suggest welders gloves, off the heavy leather 5 finger variety, so that you can handle them without being bittin, scratched or both whilst you do what you have to do, and if you, or they, sorry, bite you, you wont feel it, it wont get threw the glove.

if there "freeroaming" use a heavily padded hooded coat, with a beeniehat on underneath, that seals tight to the body at the bottom, they will cling, hang and bounce but not injure themselfs or you, whilst you clean or feed them

Or, you might want to keep it to something people use that has squirrels on it (watch the sound on the first one, it gets kind of loud and "crazy"? :-)

I already have ideals for the "Max Gear" based on my own experience with raising a pet squirrel and talking to other squirrel owners.......

What I am asking about is - How to go about getting the items made, patented and sold.

I would first research, see how much of a market there would be as it would be costly to do and since squirrels aren't legal as pets in many states, might not be enough owners.

I would write to someone who does it? http://www.fufufashions.com/

Order something and then find a local friend/whomever to help you sketch/design/sew a few things based on looking at how the pieces you ordered "work", put up a Web site and have at it.

Get a pet catalog http://www.gwlittle.com/cat/Clothing...FQ2aOAodJis_WA find out how they measure the pet, etc.

See if this board has any suggestions: http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/index.php

Patents are around $1,000 but I don't know that you could patent "clothes" -- nothing wholly unique there, no "idea". You can't patent "gloves" -- doesn't matter if they're for people or squirrels. Look at the "knockoffs" of designer items; they're perfectly legal only the name is copyrighted.
