I have concerns about my mental health. I’ve been having delusions involving ethnicity and reality feels disconnected, detached or unreal. Lately I’ve also been having tingling sensations and a choking sensation. Should I seek help? I’m still a minor and my parents wouldn’t believe me. I’m not sure what to do.

Are you in school? Can you speak to a counsellor? Larger counties and cities in the States usually have community mental health sites and you’d be able to, at least, talk to someone with mental disorder experience.

If you wish to keep your parents out-of-the-loop (which I do not advise) California law provides guidelines for kids twelve or older. But there’s no guarantee that you’d qualify for that exemption. Again, I cannot stress how strongly I feel about involving your parents in your healthcare. From the very start, if possible.

The symptoms that you list could be anything. You used the words delusion, detached, disconnected and unreal. Kind of scary stuff.

Again: Parents, school, community mental health services — just talk to someone, okay?

Good luck.

Welcome to PC. Have you checked out the Teen board? You will probably find some great support and ideas there. Best to you.

Hello apeculiar: Welcome to PsychCentral. Yes please do seek help. It would be best if you could start with your parents. One other thing you could try, perhaps in conjunction with that, would be journaling. Here are links to some articles, from PsychCentral's archives, that talk about the benefits of journaling in addressing anxiety & stress in particular & other mental health concerns in general:

Hi, apeculiar, and welcome to Psych Central! I suggest you emphasize the physical problems to your parents such as the tingling, etc. Maybe then they'd allow you to see a medical doctor. Then go from there--telling the doc about your other symptoms. I'm no expert, but you could "just" be anxious and worrying will make it worse. So, please talk to a counselor at school, too. Okay?
Thanks for this!
