About 8 years ago I was obsessed with and addicted to those adoptable egg sites, where you "adopt" an egg and get people to click it and eventually after a certain number of clicks, it hatches into something. I was on about 5 or 6 different sites. It was hard to get people to click them. Had to put them all in forum signatures (on those sites and other sites) and hope people clicked, some had click exchange threads on the forums. Some of them levelled up a bit just by views (a bit less than clicks though).

So I spent a lot of time on these sites and posting on forums to get clicks (and this on top of the normal forum posting I did). I was also on this other virtual pet site which I didn't like that much and didn't do much on there very often. But they had some fast moving threads where you did something for the person above and got an item. Then you post that you did it so they could do the same to you. This was great for getting views for the adoptables, so I spent huge amounts of time posting and doing this just to get the views. And I didn't really care that much about the items I got on that site.

This was such a massive waste of time. I know I shouldn't have done all that. I got bored of the sites and left them so all of that work was for nothing. Actually I think some of them went down, and don't exist anymore. But I was spending almost all day on them just clicking about on all of the different sites I was on, posting on the forums etc. I was obsessed. I am glad I am over that and dopn't do it anymore, but still, I really regret the time I wasted.

One of the sites was one where you could make your own adoptables. I spent so long drawing the pictures of the different stages, lining and colouring them digitally, then I had to upload them onto the site. I made the forum thread advertising them with links to each colour/type (which is what everyone else was doing). And of course, I should have known, they were totally ignored. Nobody replied to the thread (other peoples had loads), and only 1 or 2 of the eggs were adopted of each colour (usually the same person). Also you could rate each adoptable, and mine were all rated low (ah yes they actually bothered to take the time to give a low rating). This caused quite a lot of anger, resentment and of course jealousy. Because I obviously wanted people to like them.

So I ended up making a few fake accounts and adopting my own eggs and rating them high so they weren't so far down the lists. I didn't spend a great amount of time on this but it was still pointless. Eventually I left that site because it caused me such negative feelings, seeing everyone else become popular and I was just ignored.

This was just something else I wanted to write about and get out.

OMG... I had no idea anything like this even existed! But I can certainly relate to the regret for having wasted time. Sometimes I wonder if all of the time I spend here on PC isn't mostly a waste. But then I don't really have anything else to do either.

Oh they exist, though I don't think they are some popular now. I've never heard many people talking about them. Back then they were very popular, and there was more. I know of at least one that went down because they couldn't afford to keep it running.

And I did have other things to do. Many things I should have been doing instead.

That's so cool lol. Maybe not great that it became an obsession but it's a cool concept.
