I have helped with several horse rescue care in the little town I live in but my animal activism started way back in the late 1960's & continued when I came across situations that needed taken care of.

In junior college I confronted a guy who was beating his dog for getting out of his station wagon with a broken window on a day that was over 100F. He threatened to hit me....I threatened back & he backed down. I got his licence # & reported him to local animal control.

I have rescued injured animals & foster cared for them too till they could be reunited. Animals have always had first place in my heart for care whether abused or just in need of care from being injured.

& yes, our DA has found out just how bad our state laws are. When you are forced to negotiate with only jail or give up ownwrship of the animals.....there are no other penalty laws that exist. Can I say regarding horses especially....Ky Is supposed to be the horse capital if the world. Fine way to protect our equine population

I cannot think of anything worse and more evil than someone who hurts animals.

There are a lot of things I would not wish on another human being, regardless of how terrible the thing they've done is. A lot of things I've experienced. And people as good or bad is an entirely different topic on it's own. But about people who hurt animals I have a special wish for. I hope they have trouble finding and keeping employment. That their relationships fail quickly. That their shoes and clothes wear out fast. That they're always too hot or too cold. And that they're always stuck in traffic jams.
I don't understand why some people think disliking something personally is grounds for the right to hurt another living being. I really don't think people are punished enough for animal abuse. Just because they aren't human doesn't mean they aren't just as deserving of long happy lives. Animals are good, we need them. Ecosystems need them. They bring us such joy that can't be paralleled by anything else. And I will never understand why movies think it's OK to kill an animal as long as no humans die. I will gladly see every single human character murdered as long as the dog is OK....That may be a bit extreme but hopefully you get my point.

Awww sad day. I know that feelings. I had a couple small dogs named Maggie and Lilly, Lilly was Maggie's pup. One day they had got outside and were across the street. I went out to get them and while they were running across the street to me some douchbag came speeding down the road. There was no possible way they couldn't see the dogs, yet the ran right through them. I had to get them out of the middle of the road myself. The pup died a few minutes after and the mother had one of her legs permanently paralyzed. Some time later we discovered who hit them, she was the wife of one of my brothers teachers and she was laughing about it. What kind of inconsiderate **** hole do you have to be to kill someones pet in front of them and think that's funny? They were some of the sweetest, cutest dogs ever and it's still a very tender spot for everyone in my family. Even Maggie...She was never the same after that.

I had an old fat dog who would walk very slowly, so Mom used to walk him without a leash. But he would sometimes walk in the middle of the road. So they were on a walk, and one of our neighbors in an SUV came up and ran him over. After that he said he thought the dog would move out of the way. Mom had to take the dog to the vet who said he was bleeding internally and put him down. I don't think the neighbor felt at all sorry for what he had done.

There are some people that should not have animals or any pets and some people that should never have children either.

I am sorry, that woman has no heart .How could she laugh at killing or hurting an animal? She seems to be very cruel and cold to me. I remember a dog my grandmother had I use to play with him every day he was so adorable she named him Lawegy some Italian name, I dont know what ever happened to him but he was such a good dog.We got along very well.I just loved him.

Agree, I'd always pick dogs before people... and most animals in general before people.

This is what really upsets me when I hear of any animal being hurt, they bring us so much happiness so why on earth would anyone want to hurt them?

When I was younger, I hurt animals two times that I can think of, and I regret it, and I can not atone for it. They did not deserve to be hurt.

I can't imagine abusing animals. I can't even stand hitting an critter wuth my truck. I have rescued snapping turtles off the road. I stop for turtle doves that are notorious for their slow take offs.

I had a horrible time dealing with the loss of my first dog after moving here when I had all 7 of my doggies out in the yard while I was doing yard work. I knew never to use choke chains but at the time I had just moved & left everything when I moved & that was all I had. He managed to choke himself after wrapping his tie out around a pole. I tried for an hour to revive him. Now the love of my life doggie is 16 & having health problems. He has constant vet appointments & we are trying to get the right med adjustment to help the breathing & coughing. He was bad over the weekend & quit eating. I pureed the food & suppkiments together & fed him through a syringe. He is feeling good enough now to eat it off a spoon I give it to him with & breathing is better after a med adjust yesterday. He is feeling much better today & worth all the effort to get him through the crisis.

The women's horse group I am part of has spent some sleepkess nights staying with their sick or the rescued abused horses our sheriff department knew they could depend on us to care for.

It is good to see the care animals get when we see the horrible abuse that can happen too. Being part of the farming community I understand raising animals for food & I am thankful that the local meat processing places are very humane in their handling of the animals. Caring & compassion for animals can be kept even in a farming environment.
