This morning I did my normal routine of saying good morning to and telling all my fish that I loved them as I went around my apartment feeing all four tanks. Everyone was looking happy to get their meal as usual. This evening I noticed my pleco acting a bit strange at the back of the tank. He seemed to be poking at something. When I went to take a closer look I found Geodon next to the filter intake. He looked unharmed and peaceful.

All of my fish are named after drugs. Geodon joined my fish family over five years ago. When I named him I had no idea how appropriate the name would become.

When Geodon arrived home he was belly-up in the bag before I introduced him to the tank. I thought the stress of the transport was too much for him and that he was gone. But moments later he flipped over and was the active little fish I picked out at the fish shop.

Over the past five years, he has continued to live up to his name by doing the odd little things that Geodon did. He found the funniest places to sleep like wedged behind the heater. He swam in every possible direction from upside down to sideways. Any other fish and I would have been worried. He had a quirky little personality that made him Geodon.

Thanks for over five years little guy! You will be missed. celebrating over 5 years with my catfish

Oh, my, I had catfish for dinner. Now I don't feel like ever eating them again; knowing someone who has them as "pets". I'm sorry :-(

It's okay, My guess is that the type you had for dinner probably would have eaten Geodon. My little guy was about 3 inches long. So we won't hold it against you.

Geodon sounds like a great friend. I will hold you and him/her? in my heart. celebrating over 5 years with my catfish

I understand that fish can have a personality all their own.

I have a betta fish named "jem" and I know I'll miss him dearly when he goes. He's my only pet. He LOVES to see the lid come off the food container..... he snaps his tail back and forth when I put the lid in front of him.... then down fall the flakes of food that he practically punches the water with his muzzle to retrieve.

Something about fish are calming, fun and mysterious......

To Geodon and Airway-- celebrating over 5 years with my catfish celebrating over 5 years with my catfish

Airway, I am sorry you lost your pet. I understand how important pets can be in people's lives. It sounds like you have a very positive attitude about it. Its great to remember all the good times when we lose somebody we cared about. Cool way to name your fish!

Even though I've never been much of a fish person (I love to fish, not have them in my home), I am sorry for your loss Airway. I'm sure he brought you hours and hours of relaxation and put a smile on your face many times. He will be in your heart forever....never far away.
