there was an article i read recently involving children in African? children age of consent... was shocked how low it was set and it was legally enforceable...

im glad it was recieving world attention.. the majority would be outraged i think...

these childrens body's are destroyed as well as their future... very burdensome for the society as well...

ignorance is behind the bench in black robes, we just don't look hard enough. I agree, she should be thrown to the people.

I've been following the story. It was 6 men, and the poor girl was 10.
It's a long and sad story.
The girl was gang raped in 2002 and was put in foster care, but was recently returned back to where it originally happened.
What has really got me is the attitude of the defence counsel.
He said that the men (aging between 17 and 26( were just 'naughty'.
DPP legal officer Steve Carter-- "To the extent I can't say it was consensual in the legal sense, the non legal sense, yes, it was"
WHAT 10 YEAR OLD GIRL HAS THE ABILITY TO CONSENT TO SEX!!!!!!!!!
This has made me so angry!!! The lawyer said that the sex was pre arranged and just child experimentation.....from a 26 yo!!!
Well I'll shut up now, but yes this has disgusted and angered me to no end!!!

Hi JinnyAnn

It's a systemic problem with indigenous people. They are not seen as human. Last September, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was finally passed by a vote of 143 to 4 against and 11 abstentions. Unfortunately, the 4 against human rights for the indigenous were Canada, US, Australia and New Zealand.

Your story doesn't surprise me. The judge probably only saw this little girl as an animal in heat. How sad.

Have you ever seen the movie "Rabbit Proof Fence?"

I think judges are amongst the most sickest in society.. I have a theory that their own upbring, which over here in the uk, was mostly public sch (private) where a lot of abuse goes on is then denied by them...it seesm any career where it involves "dressing" up and becoming someone other than who they are leads to denial of reality..priests and such included...very sad for this child!

This case has been featured on the BBC Web site over the last several days. I went to

http://news.bbc.co.uk/

and typed in "aboriginal" in the Search space and found several more recent articles about it.

It's a very complicated problem. She was raped by aboriginal men and their "Rights of Indigenous Peoples" is what is causing most of the problems. The aboriginal, male leaders have more power than they "should" in this case and the Australian legal system is multi-tiered with "Crown" judges doing political, non-local things, etc. The poor Australians are tangled up in indigenous versus women and children and various other ignorances. They have to prioritize.

This URL does not work. It may have been given to you, or you may have actually copied it from the page, but it contains commas, which are a no-no.

I know because exactly the same thing happened to me today!

It works, the forum software doesn't like the URL/commas is all. But there's more than one way to skin a cat :-) Thanks pachy for pointing it out.
