Dear Coal eater,
I wish I had an answer to your question, but sadly I don't. Have you consulted a physician about this. The situation you describe about rocking must be very stressful and distressing. Sorry I cannot be helpful to you in this. My heart goes out to you! Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

My daughter is 17 and still does it when she is full of anxiety.

It is a way of comforting oneself when anxious. I remember doing it as children.

I rock when I'm alone, I don't fight it. I just let myself do it, because it calms me down. It's a coping skill. When I'm around others sometimes there is a chair that rocks and I feel safer then.

I rock, too. I don't rock hard because that makes me nauseous. But I do rock lightly. I find it soothing. Some people believe that rocking feels good because that's what babies do in the womb.
Can you explain more about how rocking bothers you?

I agree that it's good to find comfort and self soothe, there are lots of ways to do that. It could be worth trying some restorative yoga poses. |

Rocking is a sign of irritation and frustration. I used to do it.
