Last semester....I'm taking it again this semester.

It was the first class I ever failed my entire life, do you think this is some sort of reflection on my mentality...like a crazy person couldn't possibly grasp general psychology studies??

I am just about to finish up my Master's in clinical psychology and I am waiting to see if I am accepted to the Doctoral program.........so I would have to say no. Can you think of some other reasons why you might have had trouble in the course?

I've failed a couple of classes in my life, so I'm pretty sure it doesnt have anything to do with that. Maybe the course material is too difficult or the teacher is more difficult to understand?

Good luck this time around, if you need any help there's quite a few people here working on their varying degrees in psychology (I am!)

I've never been much for biology, science, or mathematics. I under estimated the first exam and failed miserably, then the second part of the course was heavily biology oriented, meaning physical aspect of the brain, sensory parts, and the relation they have with perspective. It was a huge chunk of the text book and overwhelmed me, especially since I already failed the first exam. I actually got a C on that exam. I basically gave up after that and no longer attended the class and missed the final exam. It brought down my GPA which was good before.

It's a prerequisite course, so I can't give up this time.

thanks hun, I'll probably be asking around when the stuff gets tough. Hopefully I'll be more prepared this time considering it's the same text and same instructor. I know what to expect this time.

Intro to Psych was brutal when I took it... there was the first part, which was all biology and physiology. A good chunk of the class did REALLY bad or dropped out. Then surprisingly, the second part was a walk in the park (all about interpersonal stuff and whatnot).

You can do it. I failed Psychology...heh

Exactly!...that is what happened here in my case. The entire class failed accept one girl and her father was a psychologist. She was probably getting some help at home.

sorry to hear your news.... good you can repeat it right away.

How are you feeling about repeating the course? Did they give you an option to complete assignments or retake exams rather than take the whole course again?

Be well........

I thought psychology was all. . . psychology! So when I took it I think I got a B or C as I wasn't into all the "science"/brain stuff, only therapy LOL.

I flunked International Economics in college. It will be funny to you in later life :-) You'll do fine this time, you know what it needs now.

I treated the course like any other course and seriously under estimated it's difficulty. The instructor is hard core and the text is no easier then he is. PLUS, it's an interactive class which means he's in another town with another classroom and we can only hear his voice and see his PowerPoint notes on the TV screen. Sometimes when he speaks fast it sounds like a bunch of mumbles. Sometimes I find myself blaming the communication problems but I could have taught myself from notes and text...that's where all the exam questions derived from.

opps... sorry about that.... I edited my post because I'd missed reading a bunch of replies and my comments seemed out of context so I edited them out. Then I say your reply and now I've messed things up. eeks.

Sorry about that.

That sounds like a very difficult course. Especially the interactive classroom delivery. That would make it even more difficult to crasp. Especially if some of the content is really dry.

You sound well armed for having better outcomes in the spring.

Take good care........

I flunked Victorian Lit because I could NOT keep my eyes open when it came to reading Dickens. My roommates regularly would find me fast asleep, snoring away, a Dickens novel spread-eagled on my tummy. I failed Psychology...heh

Perna is right -- in another 15 or 20 years, you'll get a good laugh out of it. This time around, now that you know what you're in for, hopefully will be easier!

Good luck with it this time round. I failed stats the first time I took it as an undergrad & switched majors to one where I didn't need it so it was ok. But I had to take stats for my masters & I managed to get through it barely (I made friends with an engineer and promised to help him with his essays if he'd help me with the quantitative stuff). I also hated intro psych - the psych dept. where I went to school was a really heavy biopsych research department, so in intro that's all we got.

Perhaps you could limit the number of courses you take this semester, so you have more time to focus on this one? You can also ask for accomodations such as a notetaker etc if you are having difficulties mentally processing what the professor is saying. Good wishes!

Are you a full-time student with a full course load? Do you have a part-time job in addition to this? If so, I tend to agree with Sky that maybe you should cut back so you can concentrate better.
I am about to finish my MA this semester, and I've been a wimp all along, only taking one or two courses at a time, along with my full-time teaching job...all I could handle! But that's me, at age 57. I know younger students who work and take full loads of courses, and I don't know how they do it!!!!
