I honestly don't know what to say. I need to pay down my debt. But I just read an article from a millionaire who regretted paying off his homes. He says a 50 percent mortgage is better than having it all paid off and his money is more liquid. So when I win the lottery I'll keep that in mind.

Hey @Aviza I can assure you owning your home outright is 100% always wise. I dont mean a mansion. My house is a 200 year old ramshackle bit that we were so lucky to get a reasonble price on even with the market about to fall due to overmortgaged people and subprime lending- We closed in 2007 or 2008 and the economy tanked and husband was out of work for a year. If our house wasnt reasonably priced we would have lost it. But we made it off two years ago in 2019 with the help of an inheritance. Now all we need to make sure of is taxes are paid and water sewer paid.

How can owing 50% on the house is better than owing zero? It makes zero sense.

Paying interest reduces the amount of money you pay tax on, so you pay less taxes. The quy is a Doushbag.

How can money be liquid, i don't get that either?

If money was liquid, banks would be underwater ? cause they have all the money?

monetary liquidity is an economic concept. "Liquid money" is of sorts cash or capital that is not bound in any way. If you buy a house for instance, the money you buy it with isn't "gone", but it is "bound". The cash in your purse is the least "bound", the money on your bank account the second least bound etc.

It is very abstract. It's like when you've bought a house, you can't use that money to go grocery shopping. You'd have to sell the house first, which takes time.
It's super unimportant. Don't worry if you don't get it. Besides, the student is never too stupid. If the student doesn't get it, it's cause the teacher can't teach well enough.
