not because there is a smell memory linked to that name, but because.. you just do. you just somehow hear someone say hi, my name is what ever, and immediatley get a smell (good or bad) from the name.
for me it doesn't work on all names, only some. one of the names it works on me for is christine, and whenever I hear the name christine I get a strong smell of smoke and have to leave the room for no reason at all, other than that's what my brain tells me to do. I also get the smell of new books when ever I hear the name brandan |

That is very interesting. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened to me so far. I do associate perfumes with people from my past, like my grandmother. But names by themselves have not had that effect on me. Hopefully others here on the Forum will have experiences similar to yours. Best wishes!

I don't get this with names, but with random photographs. Sometimes I'll see a photograph I have no connection to and get a smell memory. I also associate colors with numbers. I think it might be my brain crossing sensory wires, but it's weird and kind of cool.

This is called synesthesia. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/healt...95-synesthesia
I do not have it with smell. I have Grapheme-color synesthesia and I associate certain numbers and letter with colors. It is less pronounced now than it was when I was a kid. It is indeed cool. It is not a disorder. And there is some evidence that people who have it have superior memorial abilities.
