Hi everyone, Is there such a thing as auditory hallucinations with having O.C.D? I recently admitted to having these and my pdoc is alluding to some other type of mental illness...im not sure which one but she asked me if i ever seen the movie A Beautiful Mind" so i think she is referring to schizophrenia. Its bad enough i have these other problems and that both of my grandmothers and father have mental illness. If only i could find a COMORBID existence with schitzo symptoms inside of OCD and not just schizophrenia all together. HELP ME!!!!!

I'm in no way an expert on this... but from my very limited understanding, I have heard of of hallucinations associated with illnesses other than schitzophrenia.
Although I personally have not heard of it associated with OCD I have heard it associated with Bipolar and some other "combination" diagnosis. Usually (I think) in the case of something like Bipolar it can come along with an extended period of untreated mania... makes sense to me as wearing down the bodies resources seems likely to produce other symptoms. Please don't worry about the diagnosis... I know it may be a scary proposition but think of the diagnosis not as a "label" to your personality, nor something that limits your future in any way... a diagnosis is meant to be a "label" not for the person, but really for the doctors so that they can begin treatment. It helps doctors know how to proceed by giving the group of symptoms a name. Talk with your doctor about this and what it means for you... don't rely on stereotypes that society may group with these illnesses. ------------------------------------ --http://www.idexter.com

Hi Mizzy,
I'm not a professional, so take this with a grain of salt. ![]() I believe that hallucinations can occur from anxiety, and OCD is a condition placed under the anxiety "heading". I do not have OCD nor am I scheziphrenic, but I can have both auditory and visual hallucinations when the stress level gets a little too high for me. I have social anxiety and PTSD. Anxiety is not our friend, is it? ![]() Hugs, Sandy
