I was wondering if anyone knows or has an opinion on Agoraphobia,

Social Phobias, and Avoidant personality disorders? Does it run

in Family Genetics/history or just coincidence? My Father had

avoidant personality disorder, his father wouldn't even drive a

a Car. His brother quit work from stress in his 40's.

On my moms side my grandmother was alcoholic and basically all

the children were taken away by the state back in 1929. My grand-

mothers brother was agoraphobic and wouldn't leave the house for

like 20 years. I heard about a new DNA study that actually

suggests that these types of disorders are genetic? My therapist

also says it has alot too to with ancestry/bloodlines from as

far as 7 generations back. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,
Ziggy1 Agoraphobia..Does it run in Family history or just coinicidence?

My mother, sister and I have experienced phobias, including agoraphobia. I think it's both nature and nuture.

I also think it's a combination of nature and nurture. I'm sure that you can be predisposed to it like any other disease or disorder.
