Please pray, meditate, send positive energies and thoughts to my grandson, Johnathon and his healing.

He was born a month early to a mother of grave's so he has/had some immune weaknesses.

He's had three ear infections in his short six months already...two of which have had to have antibiotics changed because the first weren't working.

David, my boy, got a viral infection from preschool. It was an immediate respiratory issue...bronchitis like and very tight. I took him to Dr. last Friday and they said that nothing is infected and gave him codeine cough syrup for the cough and to help loosen the phlegm that was keeping airways tight.

Saturday Johnathon woke up with a cough...belly cough. By Saturday night, I had daughter take him to ER because he was screaming and had a tight cough. They said he had an ear infection and though chest was tight, his lungs were clear and there was no sign of wheezing. They gave him antibiotics and sent him home.

I told daughter to call first thing Monday to have peds check up on him...that's his airway plus another ear infection and he's not had a good track record so far...just to check status.

We had to call today because daughter called me this morning and I could hear him wheezing through the phone. I about died! It was horrible. I'd never heard anything like it personally.

The dr wanted to see him today and we took him. There they immediately gave him a breathing treatment. His pulse-ox was pretty OK at 97 but his heart rate was rapid as was his breathing...rapid but not labored.

So they gave him the breathing treatment and he was doing better a bit...still wheezing but not breathing so rapidly. They changed his antibiotics because he now had a double ear infection (the others were working just enough to keep pain and fever at bay). They also sent her home with an inhaler and spacer to use. Before he left, they gave him a shot of rocephin to jump-start the healing as they could.

His diagnosis was double ear infection and bronchiolitis. I'd never heard of it...obviously aware of bronchitis but not this. It's something that children under 2 get and is usually the result of a virus (as here) and often RSV virus. This is what I've read online anyhow.

We're petrified because it can be dangerous. Bronchitis is the inflamation of larger passageways. This is the inflamation of the small airways leading to lungs that are already small, add under two and they're very, very small. It doesn't take much for them to close, and it doesn't respond too well to steroids or antibiotics.

We called the dr tonight because his wheezing was loud again and breath more rapid...no labored breathing, no signs of anything too horribly scary and not life-threatening. He told her to use her judgment but if he was same as when brought in today he should be OK, just watch closely. He said he may end up in the hospital for this.

She's up all night watching him as I can't get to her or him due to bad roads. She knows to call ambulance immediately at any warning signs. I will relieve her first thing in the morning so that she can sleep.

I'm so very frightened for my love. I love him so incredibly and feel so amazingly helpless right now.

As soon as he's better, he's to see an ENT for tubes in ears. I pray that gives him relief of this infections, therefore helping his little immune system.

Please send prayers, energies and thoughts for my precious grandboy.

KD

First of all.. I feel how scared you are. And having Jonathon and David both sick, its doublly nervewracking. Please take some deep breaths to help calm yourself ok?

One good thing they got going for them is having seen the doctors when the first signs showed up. They are getting treatment and that in itself is a big plus. Very critical to do that with this kind of infection.

Second of all.. them boys have the best care with having you and your daughter looking after them! With you both being very attentive people they are getting more thorough care with you guys .

I know things are very scarey right now. But look at what all Jonathon went thru when daughter was pregnant with him.. He's a fighter.. and you know this as well as anyone. And with Little Man... He's been thru alot in his little life too.

I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. And let us know if there ia anymore we can do for you. I hope they start doing better soon. But if your more unsure of things, then by all means get them to the hospital. Thats what they are there for.

Breathing problems and respiratory problems are always scary with the little ones. You're right to watch him and be cautious and support his mom. Somehow, they make it through this stuff. He's made it through so much already. I'm sure he'll pull through this time too. I'll remember him and you in my prayers.

Both my kids went threw that right from the start of thier lifes. My daughter grew out of it sorta."As she still gets ear infections. But now they the have dx her with asthma and she has right treatments shes better. That took till she was 19 to get that.
My son whole different story. I can relate to your scaredness...He had a nebulizer and in halers seems like from the beginging, Many trip to the hospital I made.
Not that you needed this whole story, sorry..........My best advise is for him to go to the ENT Dr as soon as possable. He does not need to be well to see him....imho......Needs to be a little better maybe.......But my sons ENT dr was the one who really helped
Son had 4 sets of tubes done....
Your in my prayeres and him too

Thank you so much ((((((((((((((( everyone ))))))))))))))))

Daughter is asleep and baby is asleep so I wanted to update you.

We're still at home as things haven't progressed to anything dangerous. He's maintaining with this very well. Scared absolutely frozen

I have realized today while being here (and need to tell daughter) that his being still GREATLY helps his wheezing, rapid breathing, heartrate, all.

Small activity (even clapping one little hand on my hand and makes sense as to why it appears better at night for the most part) increases breath and it all cycles to worse. I've kept him completely still on my lap and his wheezing is greatly reduced, as is his heartrate and rapid breathing (all going hand in hand it seems. So, I've realized that *any* exertion or upset takes it spiralling.

I can only think that avoiding the irritation would help in healing so he'll just have to be held 24/7, coo'ed to and satiated. Umm, isn't that what babies are about anyway? Scared absolutely frozen A grandma's dream. Scared absolutely frozen

We're maintaining here and if I had to guage where he is right now, he seems to be a bit better than he was yesterday. We'll keep him as calm as possible till this thing runs its course and pray that it doesn't worsen for sure.

Thank you again so much and I'll try to be on this evening.

Love,

KD

KD, has the doctor said anything about running a cool mist vaporizer?? I used to take my David down to the beach because they didn't have cool mist back then (40 yrs ago). It sure helped him!

I'm praying for all of you. Scared absolutely frozen

(((((Kimmy and family))))) I’m praying for the family and hope that the boys start feeling better soon. My youngest twin had respiratory problems so I know how scary it can be. During his infancy and childhood he caught every bug going around. They were worse for him and he usually required extensive medical attention. The good news is that he’s going to be 15 in a couple of months and he’s been healthy as a horse for the last 3 years. It sounds as if you’ve got a good doctor and that’s half the battle.

When I read “use your best judgment” I cringed because I remember how frustrating that statement was. I’m really glad that you’re all on top of it. I was foolish and one time waited too long for medical treatment.
