Im curious how many of you ask for a read receipt when you
Pm someone.

Personally, I do because the suspense of knowing whether someone just hasnt read my message or read it and didnt get back to me drives me crazy.

Do You Use Read Receipts?

Yeah I would say that I use "Read Receipts" when I want to make sure that the person I sent it to actually got the PM......

I read and reply when I can and don't pay any attention to "time" or if someone replies to me/my reply.

The only e-mail person I know who uses them is one son and his wife and they're usually asking for specific time-sensitive favors (us to come to a party or babysit the grandkids :-) so I can understand that.

I have never had any problems with my e-mail or PM's, etc. so expect people to get my messages and it's up to them to reply or not. I don't take it personally if they don't reply; if they started it, that might have been all they had to say or if I write a comment, I just assume they enjoy it :-) and don't haven anything to reply.

I rarely have any earth shattering questions to ask that absolutely must be answered, mostly I'm just bantering back and forth and stop replying or log off or whatever when I do and expect others do the same.

I usually don't use Read Receipts for message boards. But, I know how it feels to wonder if someone has read an email. Especially if I email a school instructor, where he/she has the power over my grade. I've also emailed my psychotherapist and wondered if she has read an email or not. I'll worry about it for no reason. It really sucks.

I think the worry is about caring about stuff. Sometimes we care too much about the opinion of others. Sometimes we think our opinion is more important than it really is. (A great example of that is evident in BLOGGING and commenting to others' blogs. I could blog about this point.)

It's best to balance things. I don't know how to do it myself but consider changing behavior occasionally and you'll get different results. Do You Use Read Receipts?

Sometimes, depends on the person and what the PM is about!

I did once because I was concerned about someone who hadn't posted in a while. Just wanted to see if he was still around!

Other than that, no I don't.

Razzle, you just created the only scenario in which I could imagine using one.

Other than that, never have, probably never will. If someone wants to blow me off, I'm not going to press the issue.

The person's profile gives when they were last "seen". Cyrano, yours says, "Last seen: Today (03/27/08) at 03:06 pm".

I always use them, for the same reason as you rainbowzz- so I know if the other person has received the PM or not. Then I am not left wondering... But only here at PC!!!
