Well my parents are in Florida right now and I am a ball of nerves. As of right now Orlando airport is not closed, but they are suppose to leave Sunday..and it might be then.
I know that many people have survived these storms before, but my parents are not very survival savy. I am really worried about them. I just want them out.. Sorry if I am babbling.. Jessica

{{{{{{{{{{{Jessica}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I can imagine what you're going through but try not to worry too much. If they are staying in a hotel, no doubt the management will take care of them. If nothing else, they'll have them go to a shelter. If they're staying with relatives or friends, then those people will make sure they are okay.
It's beyond me why anyone would want to go or live in Florida! ![]() ![]()

Yeah... well there is still some beauty for tourists in FL we aren't all devasted (yet.)
Sept! It is a tropical paradise. And for those of us who cannot live in any kind of cold weather (60 degrees= winter to me) it works. Plus, other places have tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, landslides., snowstorms and ice. I've been looking for someplace with nothing, but even Bonaire got a hurricane this year!!!!! Go figure.

My parents are alright just stuck in Florida a few days longer then expected. The hotel they were staying at got pretty messed up. The rain was blowing in through the windows so badly that all the rooms got soaked and the stairwells were covered in water. Even the elevator shafts were like a waterfall.
They are due home tomm night and my mom took pictures of everything. It will be interesting to see. My thoughts are with everyone down there right now...it is a pretty scary place to be. Jessica

Sky, I'll take our earthquakes over your hurricanes any day of the year! Our earthquakes, on the average, don't begin to do the damage that your hurricanes do.
Many years ago, my first husband and I travelled to Illinois. Tornadoes followed us through Oklahoma and we experienced a tornado first hand while attending the horse races in Illinois. No, thank you! The anticipation, the warnings, etc. are killers! Tornadoes are also over in a matter of minutes, just like earthquakes, but with earthquakes, there is no anticipation. It's here, it's gone and it's over. Since 1986, we've only had two really bad earthquakes in California; one in San Francisco and one near Los Angeles. I'll take those odds any day! So we have brush fires... I helped fight one off on my property, but I'll take that, too, rather than hurricane after hurricane. There is nature to condend with anywhere you go, but nature isn't always raging. She expresses herself more gently in places... like in Oregon, right now. LOL Mt. St. Helen's is about to blow again! I'm glad it's my middle son that will condend with the ashes rather than me. It will teach him to abadone me! ![]() ![]() Oh! And as for Paradise... we usually get a lot of rain during the winter months here, so Spring is particularly spectacular! In west Texas where I grew up, there wasn't anything to turn green when it rained so the first time I saw California "in the merry month of May," I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. LOL (Plus I was in love for the first time in my life.) Ok... so much for rambling on and on about Mother Nature. ![]()

Hope you're feeling a whole bunch better now. ![]()

Sis Tomi,
*Points upward to a previous post* Yes!! I am not the only one who missed posts sometimes (playing around with you lady). Yes they got home last night about 9 o clock. Tired...and glad that their home was not in Florida. They had a nice vacation (go fig) but they also had a week there before the huricane hit. I get your point about mother nature. So far the scariest event I have been through was a tornado and one was enough for me. I was terrified and really though that I was going to die. However I do not know if that or a hurricane would be worse....hmm Jessica

![]() ![]() ![]() Well, having been through stand storms in West TX, a tornado in Okla. and earthquakes out here in CA, I'll stick with the earthquakes. Don't know if you heard where you are, but there was a pretty strong earthquake in N. CA yesterday (6.0). It was felt all the way from San Fran to LA. That's over 600 miles. I'm between those two cities and I didn't feel it. No reports of damage or anyone getting hurt. I'll keep my earthquakes, thank you very much! ![]()

They were talking about the storms in Florida last night on our local weather. The weather man asked, "which country in the world gets the most severe weather?" Turns out, it's the U.S. for the amount of hurricanes, tornados, etc. that we get here and the quantity of damage that they do each year.

O my!!
I have not heard about the earthquake. That is one natural disaster that I have always wanted to experience. I do not know why. I think it would be an experience to feel the ground shake underneath me. Of course I would probably be so terrified that I would never want it to happen again. The US really has the most severe weather? Wow that surprises me, but I guess it makes sense considering the diverse weather that the section of this country get. Jessica

There was another earthquake yesterday closer to where I live but on a different fault that the first one was on. They say they're not related, but give me a break! One cap shifts and they all have to shift! Plus the little earthquakes they're having near Mt. Saint Helen's. It's going to blow pretty soon. They say it's just going to be a burp, though.
LOL You'd probably be sacred during the first earthquake... but who knows. Most of them are gentle. My middle son used to love them! He'd jump on the top bunk and ride it out. He said it was better than a roller coaster ride. I don't think so! Maybe a kiddy roller coaster! LOL He should have been on the water bed when the Northridge quake hit! Wowweee, what a ride! ![]()
