I just started a drug free method called the "Linden Method" to cure anxiety. Has any one used or heard of this. It makes more since than anything else I've read or done over the last two years.

What is it? I haven't heard about it, but maybe if you told us what makes sense about this method it might ring a bell for somebody. Welcome to the forums.

Let me sum it up. You know how you feel when you watch a scary movie. You might check under the bed, make sure all the doors are locked, or have trouble sleeping for a night or two. But you keep telling yourself, "this is silly, it was just a movie, there is no reason to be scared". That is anxiety, but we deny it by telling ourselves its not real (which its not). Basically, the Linden Method is centered around that principle. We have self created (maybe by one event or maybe by an accumalation of a lifetime) anxiety, the fear of fear. Its not real, its only real in our head and thats what causes all of the anxiety symptoms. Meds just mask this and it will never get better. WE have to convince ourselves that it is not real and FACE IT head on to conquer it. We have to reprogram our brains to realize that these responses (the anxiety reactions) aren't normal. You should check it out on the internet, it really has been a revelation for me in just days!

Excuse me, but what controls the involuntary release of adrenaline that causes the "fight or flight" syndrome?
In my 22 years of living with anxiety, I've yet to find anything, even "mind over matter" that controls biological responses. In my weakened mental state, it was completely impossible to use my mind to control phobias, the feeling of dying and especially that adrenaline rush that goes through one's body and makes your heart feel like it's going to come right out of your chest, the thoughtless need to run for your life because there's a huge steam engine right on your heals! Methinks you need to control the mentally uncontrolable chemical imbalances in the brain before you can start working on the wrong thinking.

Wow, skybark. First of all I'll send you copy's of my stuff that I did order and pay for about the method. I am not a sales person. I work in drug and alcohol prevention among our youth (www.csmakeitcount.org). I've been suffering for two years and have spent endless amounts of money on over 12 doctors, on and off drugs, to rehab for valium addiction until I realized the madness has to stop! I dropped out of my fourth and final year of Chiropractic school and am now confined to my brother's basement (just now starting to reenter the world). I'm tired of spending 6 hours a day on the internet looking up conditions. I just want to except I have anxiety and beat it!! I was just trying to be helpful because I found a philosphy and idea that made since and seems to actually be working!! You must have one of those "Jump to Conclusion" mats like they do in the movie "office space".

Septembermorn,
I'm definitely not down playing any ones suffering. I have 160,000 dollars of debt from dropping out of Chiropractic School and the inability to get out in the real world and pay it off, right now. But, these chemicals are just masking the problem, not solving it. they may bring relief (which non of them did in my case other than the valium which led to all sorts of problems). The control of adrenaline and the "fight or flight" response is done subconsciously and we have little to know control directly (although some monks have learned to control it quite well!). The idea is to face it head on and "disempower it". Think about it, however bad your symptoms of anxiety (I've been to the hospital many times) they have and will never kill you! They are just sensations. Identify this when they come up and say "I've felt this before, its nto going to kill me" and actually encourage it to be as horrible as it can be. Its not going to kill you, they are just sensations triggered by "F or F". By doing this (easier said than done) you are eliminating the fear of fear and actually in a sense gain control of the condition. Over time, the body will break down those neuron pathways that have become the normal response of your body (anxiety) and will start to reform more "normal" reactions. Be skeptical, I sure as hell am. But it has helped me to get the heck out of the house and I'm feeling very optimistic. What made me believe that it was all really in my head was the fact that when I'm alone or if I make it to the gym, I'm perfectly normal. Why??? Because I'm distracted in a way that allows my subconcious to be disempowered. If I'm normal sometimes, I believe I can learn to feel normal all the time. ![]() |
