I could put this in any of the forums--depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc--many would do. Since its a mix of things, I'm choosing the all-purpose General forum.

I'm all alone tonight. Today is traditionally an exciting day for the area local homeless. Today is when the overnight shelters open for the season until the end of April.

It's nothing spectacular. A few local churches open at night taking turns each night of the week. "Guests" are given a sheet, blanket, pillow, towel and washcloth, then led to a sleeping area where the person will sleep on a narrow pad. A hot dinner is served on arrival. Some places even have a TV--maybe even a VCR. A few have showers available, but not many, and if so they are hard to come by. There is lots of socialization. Overall, it's homey. Considering the circumstances.

I can't be with the others tonight because of a stupid technicality. I kind of miss being there. It would be nice. Wishing.

I am sorry, Inkblot. Hopefully there are people out there (or here) being alone together.

Hmmm. Need a support group for the shelterless homeless. Sigh.

What are you going to do when it gets cold? Will you be able to get in then? I hope you get a job and a home soon. You always have us, but I know it isn't the same.

I'm on a waiting list (or I've been told) for an apartment through this place that ORS referred me to. I just learned that they talked to my ORS caseworker recently and it seems that the place I've been going to got in trouble because they were supposed to put me in housing already and they haven't. Guess what? They seem to be making it a priority all of a sudden. I have "issues" with various things of this place, so I'm not very happy with them. I have a lot more information to find out about EVERYTHING. I could be in housing soon, though. Don't know.

Isn't it amazing how people can manage to get their butts in gear when they are getting in trouble? I'm glad you have a caseworker who seems to be on the ball. I went through rehab too, and after I was found eligible, it took them a year to assign me a counselor or approve any services. I called C.A.P. and they worked it out the next day. Alone Having an apartment would really be a good thing. I hope it works out for you.

{{{{{{{{{{{Inky}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Jeez! I can't even begin to imagine how it might be for you! It's not hard to understand how you feel about missing "opening night," though. Is there any way you can get in until you get a permanent place? Can't imagine having to qualify for a homeless shelter! Either you're homeless or you're not! Alone

I hope your situation gets resolved quickly and I hope it works out for the best.

I really feel for you. I can't even imagine what you're feeling. Alone

I'm so sorry you are alone tonight, and can't go to the shelter. I do hope everything works out with your apartment. That would be so wonderful for you.

Wishing you safety and comfort,
Angela

Inky,

I'm sitting here thinking that with all the adversity you have to go thru, who has more of a right to be bitter and angry over what life has given them? But yet some how you find some happiness, you're kind and considerate of others, you're very supportive of people here, and you look for the silver lining. How wonderful is that?

I hope that should I ever choose to grow up, I'll find some of you in me. You're a good lady.

Love you,
Greg

No one should be homeless in the United States....as a country we should be ashamed.

Greg, you already have some of what Inky has in her! It's your "child"!! Alone It's the eternal optimist, the one that has the blind faith/hope that things will work out, the one that, no matter how he/she tries, the smallest thing will bring out a smile. The part of you that creates anything including how to get past a tough moment, the part that wants to be taken care of and looks for a place to cuddle until that tough time passes. It's a wonderful part of anyone. All we have to do is learn to recognize that "child" and of course, nurture it! Alone
