Thank goodness for the spillway. The corps of engineers opening those 160 bays have saved the areas below the spillway from the river over topping the levees down here. The city crested at 17 feet and us down in St Bernard have crested at just above 17 feet.

The worry is still not over. Casue as they close those bays they can't do it fast. Can't let the river water go down fast. The corps said if it does go down at a fast rate it will cause the levees to slide in and collapse. So hopefully they take it at a steady rate. There are still areas of seepage (blurbs) along the levee, but they are trying to convince us that those parts of the levee are fine.

The over topping of the levees reached very very close to us. they over topped just above the spillway in Reserve, La. which is between us and Baton Rouge. We're told it wasnt that bad, but still wasnt good for those living along the River Road there.

The Jazz and Heritage Festival starts this weekend so many people will be in town to enjoy the music. Another good thing for the economy down here. A little relief after all the stress.

Thank ya'll.

Yesterday I went over the St. Claude bridge. I couldn't believe my eyes. The river was less than two feet from the top of the levee. It looks to me like it got higher. But, the corps of engineers say its going down. Personally, I dont believe a word they say. Because we're finding out that their rebuilding of some of the levees where built with fautly equipment.

I happened to be with my parents at the time we went over the bridge. They said they have never seen the Mississippi this high here, ever.

It really sucks to rely on the COE when they've screwed us over and over again.

Thank ya'll for your thoughts. We hanging in there.
