my husband and I went to town today to pay some bills. While there we saw alot of people standing on the side of the road with police officers lining the road. 2 firetrucks with ladders extended over the road with the american flag hanging from it. What we didn't know is it was the homecoming of a soldier killed in Iraq. As vietnam vets escorted the hearst to the funeral home we stood silently crying. I have never been so sad I don't think in my life. He was due to come home later this month. here is a link to the story. it is still under construction but for now you can see a little of it.

Thank you in participating in Shaun's "homecoming." ![]() This young man was the same age as my son. He died on the day my son left our home to return to his base before deployment to Iraq later this month. I wish those in charge would realize our military is not made up of toy soldiers. ![]() How my heart aches for the family and friends of Shaun. May he rest in peace. ![]() |

I actually never want to know when my son is due to return from deployment, as it does seem to be the most dangerous of times...
...imo, no such thing as a toy soldier, and every military person knows this, especially those in charge. ![]() I think we all grieve for all of the sadness involved in this effort, these efforts, when one reminds us.. ![]()

That's how it looked to me when they first spoke of invading Iraq, and it continues to look that way to me now. They look like grown-up boys itching to participate in playing war games at the expense of our children - itching to test out their firepower at hand. They can't even agree on why we went over there in the first place and why we continue to stay. ![]() That's also how it looks to me when all I see are the daily numbers. We lost 54 last month. We only know of one by name (Shaun). As far as the general public is concerned, without knowing their names or story, the other 53 might as well have been toy soldiers. ![]() Your son is in my prayers. |
