I am in complete and udder schock. 11 houses are gone and there is countless damage to other houses. Yesterday a string of tornados went through Arkansas. One went through my little town..I can't believe it. My Aunt and Uncle's house is ruined..the tornado sheared the roof off and there is water damage..the inside has to be gutted. One of my best friends can't stay in her house because of the damage to the roof. I can't believe it..the town hasn't had this much damage since 1984 when one came and took out the bridge. City hall has become emergency service central. I watched them put up a barricade on my road last night so the electic company could work in peace without lookey-lou's. It was insane to come out of my great grandfather's house because it didn't look like a tornado came through. But when me and my mom drove down the road to go and get my sister from school we started crying there where houses gone and trees and powerlines everywhere..we later learned that the tornado was headed straight for us and missed us by a mile because of a change in the winds. People I have known my whole life are now homeless..everyone is walking around in a state of disbelief. We got another 4-5 inches of rain and the lake is already flooding so this doesn't help matters. The worst part of it all are the tourist that are here and think the whole manner is entertaining..I about beat the crap out of two fisherman who quote "Got lucky and came during all of the excitment..can't wait to take pictures and show everyone back home" My friend Patty had to hold me back but I mangaed to scream a few obsenites at them before they pulled away. How can people be so cruel and think this is entertaing? I feel so helpless..I'm going to City Hall to see if they are taking volunteers yet. My parents said they probably wouldn't until they got all the powerlines taken care of and it was safe to help with clean ups. I just had to get this off my chest..can't talk about it with people around her because everyone is in the same state. Just disbelief..

I'm in Shock I'm glad your relatives are safe.

Take care of yourself. That includes emotionally. I know that helping with this will to an extent help you, but there's a limit, ok? Don't overexpose yourself to the trauma.

Remember, everyone handles disaster in a different way. Those fishermen are included in that...big macho guys need to laugh things off for a bit, it's their "shock" reaction. They might still be in denial too.

I've been "homeless" from disaster, and so have other members.

Take care of yourself first, so you can continue to help others. I'm in Shock

We got lucky here in my town and county..no deaths or severe injuries. Part of that is because it was during the daytime and a work and school day..if it hadn't..ugh I don't even want to think about it. National Guard just drove by..Dad said they may issue passes for the streets that had the most damage..which would be ours..it didn't do damage from my great grandfahther's or up but got the subdivisons behind us. He lived through the one in 1984 and had to have a special pass to get to his house because of the damage where they lived. Thank you _Sky. I'm in Shock

I can fully understand the disbelief and shock of what happened there. It makes you numb and gives you the stare of shock. Things we be rebuilt. And your neighborhood will come back from this. Mother Nature can play some nasty games on us all. I'm sorry that i did not here of this, I avoid the news as much as possible becuase it triggers me immensly. I was one of those many who suffered devastation in Katrina. 12 feet of water in my house and very few who returned home. I know the feeling you have with tourists and have also attacked physically the tour vans that drive through this area taking photos to bring home. I have odd feelings of hate toward them, but shouldnt. And i am still working on that issue as of today.

If there is anything i can do for you, please let me know. Even if its just talking about what has happened to your town. I'd be happy to listen to you get some of your shock and disbelief out and share with you how i'm working through my own. Pm me at anytime. If you'd rather talk off the boards here my email is ydayna@cox.net.

love ya and ya'll take care,
chalmette

(((Everyone)))

It doesn't really registiar because you can walk out of my house and there are the clearst, bluest, most beautiful skies you can imagine..perfect weather. Plus there is no damage to my house and the houses I can see. It skipped around. It doesn't help the stress level in the house that my aunt from pennsilvania called at 7:30 this morning to check on all of us..it is really odd to answer the phone to hear that your receiving a phone call from the Moore County prison in pennsylvina..plus it sets my mom off into a screaming crying fit. I can't help but feel so restless and frustrated..I want to help so bad..but I can't figure out who to contact for volunteer information..I can't keep sitting here doing nothing..it is not my nature to just blindly stand by and do nothing when helping hands are needed. Thank you Chalmette 70043..it means alot. I'm going to go and try and find out stuff..and check on my friend and make sure she has a place to stay tonight. Once again thank you for the support..Love you guys.

Wow Silversparrow, that sounds traumatic. It is good that you are thinking of others during a time that is obviously stressful for you--shows how good of a person you truly are. I will send some positive thoughts your way. Hang in there.

I'm so very happy that you and your family and fellow townies are all safe. It is horribly tragic to go through what you've been through. Such a myriad of emotion to deal with.....I'm sure it's very stressful for you and everyone else right now.

I'm sorry about the fishermen who seemed to have no compassion for your circumstances. I do hope that they take to heart what havoc has been raised and the pain you are all feeling.

Try hard not to think of the "what ifs" they can really hurt even more than the reality of what happened. I think it's wonderful you want to volunteer to help others. Please be good to yourself through this too. Take the time you need to digest everything. Remember to breathe deeply....calmly.....and know we are sending you good thoughts and prayers.

Yeah, I heard there were like 27 tornadoes that went through Arkansas since yesterday. My bf (I guess you could call him that lol) lives in northern Mississippi and he had to run for shelter quite a few times throughout the night.

I am thankful to hear that you and your family were unharmed.
