My sister's boyfriend, who is a masters computer science student told me there is probably something wrong with the heat sink.
I've had my computer since 2005. Is it time to get a new computer or should I fix it up? How much do you guess it will cost to fix the heat sink or whatever? I've heard good things about Macs, are they any good? I don't know what computer I need. I mostly surf the net and play some games like The Sims and Grand Thief Auto.

I got rid of my old computers, it would have cost as much to fix as to buy a new one.
They have CPUs for sale here for as little as $250... and more if you need a new monitor also. Macs are good, but they operate on a totally different system, so you'll need time to learn that and get comfortable. If it's just one heat sink, that wouldn't be so bad, but since it failed then it may have allowed the component it was protecting to heat up and fail also. ![]()

Gosh, I'm a dummy. I don't even know what a "heat sink" is!! Never heard of it. Just got a new laptop about 1 1/2 years ago & had the guy from Geek Squad (Best Buy store) install everything. Unfortunately, I was also supposed to get an hour or hour & a half tutorial from him on how to use the new system (Vista) but I had come down with the flu that morning & was basically lying on the couch trying not to groan too loudly. Boy, I was sick. I couldn't sit up.
I asked him to reschedule the tutorial but he told me it would cost me $250 for an hour!! Needless to say, I'm winging it here.--Suzy |

I hear that Macs are really reliable and easy to use.
I don't really play that many games on my PC, I probably play 2 days out of the year. I prefer playing games on consoles, so I guess it's OK if there aren't many games for Macs. I just worry about the compatibility issue. Macs are also pretty. LOL I think I'll like to get one of the laptops. I wonder how much it is to fix the heat sink and what the damage is? Sucks. No computer, I'm using my sister's computer right now. I can use it when she's at work. I think I'll like a laptop. Then I can take it to the library.

Laptop with the portable wifi access where it is good anywhere--you don't have to rely on "hot spots", etc. is the way to go. FREEDOM!! I should be on the Verizon commercial!--Suzy

The wifi capability is in each new notebook or laptop... but the wifi access is pricey. I think last I checked, which was last year, it was $70 a month and that is in addition to the ISP fees.

I'm thinking of buying a Mac mini. Are they any good? Mostly I'd like to be able to surf the Internet, store photos and music and have MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Should I fix PC, which was manufactured in 2005 or should I buy a Mac Mini?
