Anyone ever taken a drug that totally knocked them out? Ive had this experience with benedryl a couple times. first time was when allergies were really bad and i was working a morning shift, and i took two and it hit me like i had not slept in days! Well that was the old story, now........ Few days ago i went to the ER because I heard crackling in my face (turned out to be sinus infection)... but my anxiety led me to beleive i was in danger and needed to go to the ER annnnnnnnnyway, They gave me benodryl, and an antibiotic, and as soon as i get home and lay on the couch, i was talking to my mom and i couldnt even hold my eyes open. I wanted mcdonalds, so i was eating a burger and was falling asleep during bites! i finally finished that damn burger, and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up about 4am in my bed, and used the potty, then thought "how did i get into bed?" I was totally unaware that my hubby woke me up and i walked myself into my room and went to sleep. You know, i don't even remember putting on my pjs! The benodryl helped my conjestion, but woooooa it probably works better than some sleep meds!

About three years ago hubby was away ( he used to give me my meds ) I took my meds as normal but then forgot I took them so took them again, I had to get my mum to take my children to school and then spent the day in bed sleeping I was truly 'out of it' for the whole day.

One time I was having an extreme toothache (it was impacted and had an exposed nerve ouch) I went to an after hours clinic and they gave me a shot of something and also gave me some strong vicodin , I slept for a day and a half.

While my body was getting used to the Thorazine it was quit funny around here me bumping into things. Trying to lift things and not being able to etc. But yes I have had that and am experiencing some of the effects of that this morning for some reason.

The first time I ever took nightquil I was out in thirty minutes and I didn't rember getting to my bed.

The worse was after the car accident and I was on these super pain meds, I don't rember the name but my dad said they where just a level below morphine. I honstley rember almost nothing about that week or the next week because after I got done with my pain meds they gave me super muscle relaxers and that took another week away from me.

I used to give my old dog 25 mg of benedryl to keep his anxiety down when storms came through. It works as a tranquilizer. You might try taking a small dose.

Many meds do affect people strongly the first few times they take it, which is why most warning labels say to no drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Boy, I recently had an experience where I had 1 glass of wine at home (don't usually have any problems with wine on my meds, BUT I just had my Abilify decreased & added Topamax.

Well, everything was fine & then we got to the restaurant & I ordered another glass of wine, was eating my dinner & then suddenly the other fellow across the table said something about my looking sleepy. I DON'T REMEMBER ANYTHING ELSE AFTER THAT!! I don't think I dropped my head in my food, but my husband said I walked out, got home, got changed for bed (I don't know if they finished their dinner or not or what happened to them--all I remember is that I did have a full plate of Thai food & 1/2 a glass of wine left) .

I don't remember anything else after him saying I looked tired!! I am so embarrassed. I haven't spoken to them. I don't know what to say.

This change in meds also had the effect on the anesthesia when I was having a colonoscopy (sorry, folks) & a polyp removed. Basically the anesthesia didn't work!! I was screaming "Stop, stop!" 5 years ago I had the same anesthesia & had no problems so the changes in meds definitely are affecting things--& the doc obviously didn't know much about psych meds to not warn me in advance that I should discontinue, or cut dosage or substitute something else...

Waiting for the next strange thing to happen.--Suzy

Its scary when you cannot remember getting somewhere b/c of the meds! Benodryl works wonders, BUT I will only take it at bedtime when I need it.

When I was in my teen years and early twenties I had a really low tolerance for any type of meds. When I would take an Actifed you could time me, I’d be out in 20 minutes. I was working night shift most of the time during those years. I had been having trouble sleeping during the day and we had some function to attend that evening so I took a single Tylenol PM at 6:30 a.m. Twelve hours later my husband had to carry me into the shower to wake me up.

When I had my twins, I had a C-section. I have very limited memories from the whole experience. They were born around noon. At 8pm the nurses insisted that I get up and walk around. I had no problem with that, but they insisted that I get a shot of Demerol first. I took two steps and passed out. The next morning they wanted me to walk again and I had to throw a fit so that I would get the meds after the walk rather than before.

Since I’ve worked shift work the majority of my life, I asked my pharmacist what the best OTC sleep medicine was, he said that Benadryl was the best medication to use to help fall asleep and stay asleep without addiction.

I'm actually running into that problem with Seroquel...I'll go to bed and then when I finally get up all the lights are on in my room and lately I've been finding I've been smoking at night! This is not good...I could burn down the house!

Another med I had trouble with was after I had my wisdom teeth out they gave me demerol (sp?) & I had like Satanic hallucinations. I was petrified; I was in bed & all these Satanists were doing rituals in my backyard (or so I thought). I couldn't even speak to wake my husband up.--Suzy

just a suggestion, try leaving your cigaretts in another room or somewhere that they are not so easy to access. my hubby sleep walks and sleep eats and all sorts of stuff and making some things inaccessable helps.

I have a very low tolerance to any meds, and the 1 guaranteed side affect I will have with anything and EVERYTHING is sedation!!! One of the worst was with maxalon. I was given 4x the normal dose (40mg instead of 10mg) because it was to help with milk production not nausea. Luckily I was in hospital with my daughter because I literally slept for 24hrs, waking once to go to the toilet. I had the drs and nurses very worried. Interestingly though some of the med profs argued themselves silly that it wasn't the maxalon as they said there was no literature to say that sleep is a side affect!

And Serequel...whoa...I often fall asleep on the floor in the living room if I don't get myself to bed quickly enough...
