So, its June here in Kentuckiana. Hay bales are tossed and Burley tabacca is being dropped in the ground. Cicadas have come and annoy us all. Gardens are being planned and the farmers are hoping for a good tomata year. Tractors cause traffic each way you go, but the respect is still alive. The Ohio River is still not very pleasantly clean, btu she gives us life. The humidity reminds us why we hate this valley, but living here reminds us why we love it.

Ohio River Valley all the way.

yeppers the Ohio aint no picture is it....here at work im only a couple football fields away from the "bend" at Evansville....

Ive always found it fascinating that here in Evansville the water treatment plant is DOWNSTREAM from the waste water treatment plant....lol

so all the treated sewage that goes back into the river goes down and gets picked up by the water treatment plant and eventuallty into our water taps!

and your right the humidity is bad already and its only June...

I havent heard any Cicada's yet....they must prefer Kentucky over Indiana.....

I have been in Kentucky for actually 1 year now & have seem most every season now....even it I did travel back to California last September & between Thanksgiving & just before Christmas. I purchased my farm last year May 15, so I have spent already 1 June here in Kentucky.......somehow, this one is different that last years June (at least a bit different)

Being from California....the seasons are interesting to experience.....the draught last year wasn't very plesant as it seems it killed most of the good grass in my yard....leaving only the weeds to come up this year....but at least the weeds are green. The humidity even here in central KY....just south of Lexington....is heavy for me....I am also close to the KY river....almost in my backyard. Fall was interesting.....as the trees were continually changing their colours....in the fall tones.

Then came winter......oh, actually I think I love the winter almost the best.....as you can get away without having to be continually mowing or worring about the outdoor things....it's like you get a breather from life & can enjoy doing other things.

Then spring hit......oh, I didn't realize how quickly grass can grow.....as grass is foreign in California except for the little one plants in the front yard.....nothing that grows over 12 inches tall to hide the lawn tractor.....or even the cows one of my friends brought in to do her lawn mowing. When you have problems with your equipment, it's all over......waiting to get something to work or fixed.....& you are behind before you begin & never catch up.....at least not when you are trying to run a farm on your own....with no money to hire help to get anything done.

The spring does have a beauty that is undescribably however. It seems that from just after the last frost.....beginning of April, there is a different tree in bloom every week.....starting with the red buds.....then into the dogwoods......then into other trees.....It is June 6, & there are still more trees that are coming into bloom.

I am sure that any blooms at this point will be eaten by the cicadas.....those anoying creatures that I have already posted about. I will be surprised if several of my trees aren't stripped by the end of their monty long cycle.

I think this summer will be long & hot....as we are having a full week of over 90 temperatures...Summer has only begun & I have to admit....I am looking forward to fall.....maybe after the horrible noise from the cicadas goes away, I will be able to feel better about the summer, but it seems that when one is already prone to anxiety attacks, that constant droning buzz.....just kicks any anxiety attack that wasn't going to bother me, into being.

I do love every minute of living here in Kentucky....I think the words that describe this state different than the others is it's graceful beauty......it's elegant beauty....compaired to the rugged mountaing of the west coast areas & the durt.....or the rolling fields of the mid west......It definitely has a beauty that attracted me here last year when I came to look for property.

It is a wonderful, beautiful state to live in & enjoy,
Debbie

Sounds like home to me! (minus the cicadas since I've never seen one)
