I went by my school on Thursday, to get something from my art room. There, in the office, sat my principal with her light on, though the rest of the school was dark and deserted. She looked terrible, since she is in pain from just having an operation of both knees replaced a couple of weeks ago.
I've complained a lot about her, since she is very demanding of all of us teachers, but I also have to admit to an admiration for her devotion.
There were fruit flies all over her office, eminating from a huge potted plant, which I asked her if I could move out of the office, to which she agreed.
I have to say her example is inspiring. I would have been home resting and recovering. I will have to rethink my criticism of her, as I am inspired by her example.

I completely understand where you are coming from on this. So often we see task masters as cruel at times. It certainly is an eye opener when all of a sudden we see this person going the extra mile and understanding that they don't really expect more from us than they give of themselves. I have always appreciated that aspect of any supervisors I've had in the past. My school principal...

That was nice of you to move that plant for her. I'm sure she appreciated you!

Have a great weekend My school principal...

It sounds like an epiphany for you. I hope it makes your path easier in the coming months.

I could never be a school administrator. I started taking grad admin classes several years back, and quicklly realized I couldn't deal with it!
Wants, and Sabby,...an epiphany of sorts, yes.
This past year of teaching was very hard for me, though I've done the same job in the same school for 20 years. It's a daily struggle for me to maintain my peace of mind, truly. I've wondered if this is due to my aging, now age 57, and having to deal with the erratic nature of the middle schoolers, or if it is the changing nature of the students, who seem more and more inclined to disrespect.
Regardless, I have to return to my job, and do the best I can. At times, I have feelings of optimism, looking forward to the next school year. We'll see.
Love

I have also had the experience where I have remembered the person who pushed and was hard on me. Today I cherish what I have learned. The people who always praised me and said good job has not had a lasting impression on me. I'm glad you have had this experience.

Thanks, Emilyjeanne, for the response!
It's interesintg that the people who maintain a high standard of excellence often get lots of gripes and behind-the-back criticism. That is certainly true with this principal, but she maintains a vision and when approached on a one-to-one basis, she is always fair. I will have to remember this during the coming year, when I feel like whining!

That settles it -- I have to stop complaining about my feet. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring story.
