Hi Tina,
I will certainly try what you suggested. I'm an "older" student and feel a little uncomfortable. But what you say makes sense. I probably will be going by on office hours to get some extra help and maybe make a connection with the prof, letting him or her know that I'm serious about what I'm doing and like you said get to know them more personally.
