Is it normal or symptomatic of any condition to be feeling 'flat' up to two months after the end of a 7 month period of high anxiety?
I thought i was/feared that i was terminally ill, and this went on for about 7 months, even though my family doctor and neurologist told me i didn't have anything serious then finally i'm told by a top neurologist that i'm not seriously ill and i seem to have accepted it now . . . Two months later however, i am still feeling really flat. I know i have to get a job again, but i don't do it. Thoughts? |

Since you were very anxious for seven months, maybe your body just needs time to calm down. Maybe it's normal. I'm not an expert in any sense, but I think you're ok.
Take care and God bless, Violet

Sounds a lot like depression. That's usually what causes a person to feel "flat".

My T says this does happen to some people. I will tire myself out with worry and anxiety and then become depressed for awhile. She even gave me a diagram once to show this. It started out with the Fight-Flight snxiety feeling with adrenaline release etc. Then the body releases neurochemicals that drops you into decreased heartrate, exhaustion, increased gastro activity, depression.
She had another diagram that called it Hyperarousal vs Hypoarousal. Hope you feel better soon |

A few thoughts for you. When I read your post, I thought about a grieving process. Being faced illness can cause grieving of the life we thought we had. It is a major shift in how we view ourselves and this thing called life. IMHO, your body is trying to heal from the period of high anxiety, and a certain amount of feeling 'flat' would be normal. Just like our taste buds work -- if we have a piece of really sweet candy and then eat some fruit, we might not notice the fruit's sweetness. We need time to regain our equilibrium. Take time to care for yourself in this period. Maybe talk to someone, eat really good healthy food, and get out for some fun. Basically, nourish yourself, in every way that you can. HTH -- feel free to ignore any and everything I said if it doesn't ![]() |
